    Charge attacks and Tripping

I think it could be intrepreted that way, yes. Of course, a class ability or feat that allows you to change direction during a charge would complicate this interpretation. I know I have seen at least a couple of these. I see it as the +2 to hit comes from the momentum of the charge, and if...

    Charge attacks and Tripping

In real life, I agree with you completely. B would go flying in A's direction as he was tripped (probably sailing through the air and going a few more feet before stopping), but that's not what happens in the game -- when tripped, B falls prone 5' in front of A (as soon as B enters A's threat...

    Monks and Polymorph

The "Initiate of the Draconic Mysteries" PrC in the Draconomicon grants a limited form of Shapechange at 10th level. Suppose I have a character with Monk levels taking that PrC -- a Monk 10/Initiate 10. Shapechange states that I lose the creature subtype, (Su) abilities, and (Sp) abilities of...

    Charge attacks and Tripping

I'm sure this has been asked a billion times, but I can't search the forums, soo... 1) Person A readies a trip attack. 2) Person B charges Person A. 3) Since Person A readied, his trip attack is resolved first. Suppose Person A makes the trip attack and succeeds, knocking Person B prone...

Timeless Gaze spell - Feedback please

I agree with Jester. It's obviously similar to maze, so that is a good basis of comparison. As written, the spell sounds about level 7, given that it allows a save and SR. If you include the save once per round, you could drop it down to level 6. Another possible idea to consider: what...

    Best Teleportation Spell EVAR

I like this. Useful and powerful, but you've given careful consideration to game balance, nonetheless. I usually have some gripes about balance issues, but I would have to say, at face value, I would probably allow this into my game as-is. This seems almost like a Dimension Door, Greater spell.

    Fighter 'spells'

You're right, I did miss how radical your opinion is. I disagree with you, but I believe people are entitled to their own opinions. I think it is good that you explore ideas beyond the norms. To me, it's such a big difference from the D&D philosophy that I don't know how you can get the...

    Fighter 'spells'

I agree with the opinions of the majority here. There are no core feats that grant non-spellcasters any spells higher than level 0 spells, that I know of. Spells, especially damage dealing spells, are the major class feature of a sorceror/wizard. By creating feats that allow damage/dealing...

NC GAME DAY II (Aug 23): Man, was that fun or what?!

Grrrrrr. I have a lost minute conflict, and I won't be able to attend. So please offer my slot in NSCUCM's FR game to someone else. I'm sorry for the late notice. I feel really bad I won't be able to attend. I was looking forward to meeting you guys.

Stunned characters can't act. Can they take AoOs?

Well, since stunned creatures have -2 to AC and lose Dex bonus to AC, the grappler already gets the benefit of the target losing their Dex bonus against the touch attack to start the grapple. For resisting grapple/trip attempts, how about a -2 penalty (to be consistent with the AC loss)?

    D&D 3.x [3.5] Marilith Writeup

I went to PSU also. I spent four years in Atherton Hall overlooking SBS and McLanahan's. I really miss those days.

NC GAME DAY II (Aug 23): Man, was that fun or what?!

I actually have a bunch of minis. If there are some you need, let me know.

NC GAME DAY II (Aug 23): Man, was that fun or what?!

NCSUCM, I can bring a mini for my character, if you want. If you know what class/race/sex my char will be, I can find something.

    [spell] Kimbers Icy Rays

I'd even say that this spell is a bit underpowered. Cold Orb from Tome and Blood is almost the same spell (4th level), except it is small orbs instead of rays. It had a damage cap of I believe 15d6 and you could split up the damage among targets as you wished in 1d6 increments. I mean...

    Thinktank:System for measuring class balance

Exactly, and developing your point-based balance system will be exactly the same way. The biggest problem it's difficult to get people to agree on whether anything is balanced with anything else in D&D (3.0 or 3.5). Taking it to the next step and trying to see which little abilities, skils...

    Thinktank:System for measuring class balance

I too would like to see a quantified formula to determine if a class or PrC is balanced. But I'm not sure it is possible to do, given all the subtle nuances involved in game balance. I agree with Argus -- the Class Construction Engine is a good starting point for this purpose. If you do try...

A Concentration check DC 15? Wow, that's generous.

    D&D 3.x [3.5e] Making stabilizing a Fort save

Well, like I said, I don't mind the idea of healthier characters having a better chance, either. I just think that if the chance to stabilize gets much higher than the 30-40% range, it's a bit too much. But YMMV -- it is your campaign, so do what you like. Other possible ideas: Instead of a...
