    I need a name for a setting

These are great guys! Even if I don't use them for this setting I can definitely find some other settings to use them for! Thanks!

    I need a name for a setting

Xenoparasite Wars - sounds promising Inside Space - hmm for some reason this sounds like a news agency Maybe Parasite Space? or Parasite Wars? Xenoparasite is too long. XenoWars actually sounds good too. Any other ideas? These are good!

    I need a name for a setting

I am working on a setting for my Nexus system based in the Fusion Age. Basically it is hard scifi, pregravitic age setting. Ships have no inertial compensators or artificial gravity. They are exploring a series of Wormholes that are connecting alot of different star systems that seem to have...

Do we really need Classes anymore?

Okay M&M isn't a normal level system. It is a bit weird how it deals with it but I like it. I think that it does Supers better then any other game system I've seen. I was thinking of levels as power levels from that game. I do like that ability to get a general idea of power level from the...

"Fixing" d20 Modern - The Definitive Thread

Wow! Interesting running into the guy who designed the Wealth system on here. No offense but I really dislike the Wealth system. I'm sure you a re a nice guy so please don't take it personally. My problem with it is that it is trying to replicate an even more complex system of economics but it...

Do we really need Classes anymore?

Well I was actually talking about separating levels from classes. I think that we just need a class framework for building characters but not actual classes. One of the things that I did was to have everyman skills, as in Hero System, but based on your tech level. You also start with all of...

Do we really need Classes anymore?

When I was first working on my Nexus D20 system I was thinking in terms of Classes such as in T20 Traveller and Spycraft 2.0. I was mixing it with my idea of having Feats under Skills. I had more and more Classes and they were less and less different from each other. After a while I realized...

"Fixing" d20 Modern - The Definitive Thread

One of the problems I had from D20 Modern as well as most RPG games was that there didn't seem to be a great reason to bother with cover. It gave ou a bonus but after a certain point you were just so good at defenses that you didn't bother with it. So people would just stand around, OK Corral...

Must-have advancement options for a playtest?

Can I recommend checking out my Nexus d20 system. It solves some of these problems by making the danger level of combat the same across the board. My system is classless but you could create classes in it very easily by setting what feats a class gets at a certain level.

"Fixing" d20 Modern - The Definitive Thread

Well I designed my Nexus D20 game to deal with these issues. I took a lot from Spycraft and SWSE but I went a bit farther. Guns are realistic and lethal from one shot. They are based on the idea of a character with no real skill or dex can kill a person with one shot from a light pistol...

Have a GMing Problem: I keep GMing the way I would play

I will ask after each session what the player's liked and disliked. Sometimes I get surprised such as doing something that frustrates a player but makes perfect sense within the game because they made an assumption. I thought that the player hated it but it turned out to be something he liked...

HAHA Yes Naboo was a stupid idea and so was everything having to do with that movie. Why did they land the "troops" on the opposite side of the world? It always seems that Star Wars planets are the size of a moon and only have one point of interest on each one. Okay I can understand the flavor...

I am trying to figure out how to translate some things from one system to Nexus and I came upon an interesting question. Is it more important to accurately translate something into the setting or to logical translate it into the setting? For example the Fusion Age is the point at which I think...

Mechanical Alignment: How Well Does it Work?

I think that exploder wizard has the best idea. If you want a heroic game then only reward heroic actions. You could try Hero Points that you can only get for doing heroic things. You get none to start with or with your level - only heroic actions. If you want a "Sin" system you should have...

Have a GMing Problem: I keep GMing the way I would play

Talk to them. That is the only solution. If you don't you will be at cross purposes with them the whole campaign. The other thing that you may need to do is restart you game. You may have to do this anyway if your players have developed these characters in their minds a certain way and they...

How would you houserule (nerf) magic at high levels.

There is a simpler way of dealing with this that is really quick and easy. Figure out how powerful you want the magic users in your game to top out and say that magic above that level doesn't exist in your setting. If you want to take 8th and 9th level out then do so. Maybe add requirements...

Power Armor and Mecha Tech Levels

Yes I know that FTL systems are effectively speed of plot but you should still put some general numbers there. The "speed of plot" in an RPG could be between two sentences. In a TV show it would be time to review the subplots. Even if you define a specific speed then you can make up the...
