    D&D 5E (2014) Ryoko's Guide to the Yokai Realms 5E

‘Anime-inspired’ and ‘real world Asia inspired’ are not necessarily synonymous. Just ask Full Metal Alchemist, for instance. Or Hellsing. Ghibli’s Porco Rosso is set in a faux Mediterranean. And I came up with these examples very quickly despite really, really REALLY not being an expert on the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Ryoko's Guide to the Yokai Realms 5E

Between this, and the success of the Obojima and Avatar kickstarters, if WotC aren’t looking at a vaguely anime-adjacent product in their future slate, they’re nuts.

D&D 5E (2014) Replacement art is up for Bigby's AI art on D&D Beyond!

I’m pleasantly surprised that WotC actually commissioned new art from real people to replace the AI stuff rather than just remove the old stuff and never mention it again like they did with the hadozee. The spiky dinosaurs still look silly though, but whatever floats your boat.

    D&D 5E (2014) Ryoko's Guide to the Yokai Realms 5E

Having a bit of a look at Loot Tavern on kickstarter, the really big one is fulfilled in PDF to good reviews, but looking in the comments there's an increasing amount of angst about how far behind schedule the physical product is running. Occupational hazard of having piles of stretch goals...

    D&D 5E (2014) Ryoko's Guide to the Yokai Realms 5E

I saw a Facebook ad for it. But FBs algorithm is probably very aware that I'm the biggest sucker imaginable for RPG kickstarters.

Planescape What are your favorite creatures, concepts, planes, gate-towns, NPCs, etc. of the Planescape Setting?

The inner planes, and the para- and quasi-elemental planes are where it's at. I find them much more interesting than the Outer planes. Take me to the elemental plane of radiance, or the plane of salt or steam, or somewhere similar I've never been before. From the outer planes, Pandemonium...

    D&D 5E (2014) Ryoko's Guide to the Yokai Realms 5E

It sounds a little like the D&D Shorts guy is mostly just the face of the project. He's listed almost last in the credits and his credit text is is described as : It sounds like the lion's share of the works is being done by others. There is a primary loremaster credited there, several...

D&D 5E (2014) Planescape shows up in the wild. Tease from Chris Perkins.

Opinions will differ of course, but I would view as deeply inadequate and incomplete a Planescape product that didn’t cover, y’know, the planes. I mean, it’s right there in the title…

D&D 5E (2014) Planescape shows up in the wild. Tease from Chris Perkins.

I don't mind either cover art, but to my mind DeTerlizzi's worked better in the older format, little monochrome vignettes in the corner of pages rather than big full-colour front cover pieces. The backdrops etc filling out the covers just seem a bit blank and unfinished. It worked in the old...

    Million Dollar TTRPG Kickstarter Club

It's premature, but one I'll be watching with some interest is Vynestra - an ancient Rome-influenced setting, which is the sort of thing which is right up my alley. It was due to start crowdfunding at the start of the year, but aborted the campaign due to the OGL fiasco happening at precisely...

    IRON DM General Discussion

I don't think there's any serious danger of a lack of interest in Iron DM! The last two years I haven't been able to compete because the enrolment post went up in the middle of the night my time and all the slots had been filled by the time i woke up in the morning...

    Million Dollar TTRPG Kickstarter Club

Looks like there's another one in the pipeline. $700k with >5000 backers after two days. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dndshorts/ryokos-guide-to-the-yokai-realms-a-5e-tome?ref=discovery&term=ryokos

    D&D 5E (2024) PHB Playtest Packet 7 drops Thrusday, September 7.

I haven't really been keeping up, but is there any reason at all to having size be a thing for PCs at all any more? We did away with species based ability modifiers, we've almost entirely done away with small creatures moving slower, now there's no restrictions on small species using heavy...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is your Favorite non-WotC 5E Supplement or Adventure?

I'm going to cheat a bit and nominate the combination of the Midgard Campaign Setting, and the Southlands Campaign Setting, from Kobold Press. Just really strong, evocative, dynamic stuff and got me more involved than any campaign setting I've seen in many years. Still very sad that they...

    D&D 5E (2014) Least Favorite WotC 5E Book?

Har'Akir is one of the better done VRGtR domains in my opinion. The domain never got much love in previous editions of the setting, and the additions to the place are mostly interesting and useful - like the Labyrinth, and the priesthood of false gods who work to keep the populace quiescent...

    D&D 5E (2014) Least Favorite WotC 5E Book?

VRGtR is a weird one. Most of the player options are really solid (the bard subclass is silly, but there's always an exception), and the Dark Gifts are cool. All the material and advice about the different genres of horror and running horror is really high quality. I personally prefer a Core...

    D&D 5E (2014) Least Favorite WotC 5E Book?

It's quite possible. I don't play MtG or know much of anything about it, but i've read posts on here that in MtG fiction etc it's written as much a much more ruthless cut-throat Machiavellian kinda place than the D&D book portrayed it. Maybe that might have made for a more interesting setting...

    D&D 5E (2014) Least Favorite WotC 5E Book?

There's an awful lot of material i haven't bought so can't judge. Strahd and Dragonlance are the only adventures i own, I never bought Ravnica or any of the adventure compilations, or Acquisitions Incorporated or Bigby's - so i can't really easily judge the whole line. Of the stuff I do own -...

    Unpopular opinions go here

I haven't thought too much about it, but I'd probably just assume 'Common' was a trade language, and maybe apply disadvantage to persuasion/insight/whatever checks pertaining to non-mercantile matters if Common is the language spoken. It's probably perfectly functional for bartering for...

    Unpopular opinions go here

Hey, this is the UNpopular opinions thread! Your widely-agreed-with and undeniably true take doesn’t belong here! 😛
