    DMing: from fun to work

When there is no connection (spark/click) between the DM and the Players. When the game expectations don't match.

What games from the early 80's are still being published?

Actually it came out in 84 (Checked the history online.) and there is very little difference. There is less difference the between DD 1 and DD 2. For got about Champions (I knew there where some changes but did not know that they where all minor.) I will have to look into the retros.

With TORG having a possible buyer I'm jonesing for some Cross Genre Gaming

ICE had rules for Rolemaster/Spacemaster crossover but it was clunky at best. TORG was a great system but the setting system had some major flaws.

What games from the early 80's are still being published?

Yes but Rune Quest underwent a major revision close to DD 3.x to 4. The magic system had major changes. I don't know about the rest.

What games from the early 80's are still being published?

With all of the history treads lately I have been what games that are on the shelf now that are still very close to what the where like in the early 80's (84 or earlier)? For an example of close I would except D&D 3.5 but not D&D 4e because of the radical changes. I am not sure Path Finder...

This is one of best write ups for a world I have seen. Is it available any where?

The ENWorld Gamer: What Kind of Gamer Are You?

Not much, NWN 2, (solo and with family), Hearts of Iron 3 (Computer wargame - far more complex the Axis and Allies series) and Europa Universalis (a complex nation building game.) Here, I would think that it mean stuff like the Civil War reenactment or the WWII reenactments.

Do you know of a great FLGS?

Just posted both Dragon's Lair stores in central Texas.

Do more choices make us happier (in gaming)?

I have read all of this tread and think you are over looking one important reason for multiple choices in an RPG. More choices it can effectively cover the more people will find what they want in the game and use it. Player A might want only one or two types of fighters but neither of them...

    First D&D/RPG Experience

I started with Fantasy Trip, D&D stuff was not in the stores I could find until 81, after I started. I was 22 when I started. I was a board gamer who had bought Wizards and Melee. Found Fantasy trip and ran a game for my Girl friend and one other.

First Impressions from the D&D 4E "Test Drive"

Actually I think that is a matter of taste. I have seen both in action and I would as a wizard player prefer Wizard Fury. The ability to make a attack as a minor action for an entire encounter is fantastic.

    How often do you play?

We are suppose to play once a week but our host has missed 5 out of the last 6 weeks. My wife wants me to play at least once a week to get me out of the house.

Has the DMs job evolved in regard to "winging-it"?

Do my DMing skills, I have a hard time preping. I am far better at 'Winging-it'. The rules (I have played/GM every thing from Heroes to Fantasy Trip) don't get in the way of wing it but more complex the rules the more in depth you need to know them to run by the seat of your pants. The more...

First Impressions from the D&D 4E "Test Drive"

4e Fluff is not connected to the crunch at all. Re skinning is recommended several places and as no affect on the actual play. I highly recommend it. How you explain it in game is just fluff. I have yet to have a player ask but my explanation is divine healing. The PC 's are special because...

Forked from Xmas Tree: Are Item Slots Necessary? [Any Edition]

A couple that I remember, A belt, a shoulder bardic, and a sash. A skull cap under a helm, with a hood over both. Slots can also server a lesser purpose. They help with encumbrance. By limiting magic items to the slots, it helps avoid "I can carry a ton" with out actually having to figure the...

4e increased my DM prep time...

I winged my session last night completely. Since it had to be a short session, there was only one battle but it was created as the players set up there figurines on the map. A very large room with one set of 60 wide set of stairs. For the monsters I simple opened the MM and grabbed the...

    Pathfinder and 4e....and BALANCE.

3.x/PF and 4.e are also balanced differently. PF/3.x is balanced across the campaign life. It is set up so the combat types are stronger at first the the spell casters catch up the over take the combat types. This is a hold over from the original approach and campaign styles the game was...

    The Evolutionary Enemy

Actually it feeds on the power generated/channeled by the infected host. Violence seems to increase the amount of energy generated. (Some say any type of risk taking will increase the power levels, just not as fast as violinece will). While this seems to be plus for the victim, it is actually...

    Are Hit Points necessary?

This is more of a mater of taste. I don't like dice pools because to me they are messing and difficult to use. On the other hand I have used Harmmaster combat system that uses both specific wounds and fatigue points. Most would find it a very difficult system.

    This mentality needs to die

I thought so. I have found the only good measure of a gaming night is the players reactions on the way out of the door. My last game night seemed to be a bust. It was lot of setup for the over all campaign. More talking to NPC then my novice players have done period. We had one battle I...
