D&D 5E (2014) So, I kind of want to stay with 2014 rules. What are my longterm options?

For this particular problem, I'd rely on having the Basic Rules and the 5.1 SRD PDFs available, as something to pass to future players (either as a file or as a printout). It won't cover every option in the 5e core rules, but it does cover a lot. As for the material not covered by the above...

Did You Back a Million Dollar TTRPG Kickstarter? How's The Game?

Strongholds & Followers: Read it, liked some things but overall didn't live up to my (admittedly high) expectations. Haven't used it in a game and not sure I will. Kingdoms & Warfare: Backed, but haven't read yet. (Suspect I'll have a similar response.) Flee Mortals: Backed, but haven't read...

    D&D 5E (2024) So IS it a new edition?

Ah, OK, so the official term for the new core rulebooks as a whole (PHB 2024 + DMG 2024 + MM 2025) is "5e revised"? Then yeah, kind of strange that people wouldn't just use that, if that's the way Wizards themselves is distinguishing them from the original core rulebooks. "Fifth edition" or "5e"...

    D&D 5E (2024) So IS it a new edition?

Thought you said the official name for the new set of core rules was "Dungeons & Dragons 5e revised core rulebooks"? Generally people referred to the previous core rules set as "fifth edition" or "5e", so I assume they're looking for a similarly short blanket term for the new core rules set.

    D&D 5E (2024) So IS it a new edition?

Huh. Rather wordy and/or inefficient, that. No wonder people are looking for something else.

    D&D 5E (2024) So IS it a new edition?

Eh, YMMV. I prefer the look of the revised 2e rulebooks to the original 2e rulebooks. (Granted, they were also my introduction to playing the game.)

    D&D 5E (2024) So IS it a new edition?

Wait, there's an official name for the new version of 5e? What is it?

    D&D 5E (2024) So IS it a new edition?

Maybe. But they haven't done that with other 5e products that have gone out of print (the original Starter Set, the original Tyranny of Dragons duology, Volo's, or Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes). In fact Wizards themselves hasn't added anything at all to DM Guild in quite a while. (And at least...

D&D General Bob World Builder Recreates WOTC's "Do You Like Me?" Survey!

Yep, there are already D&D Beyond exclusive monsters (half of the Monstrous Compendiums, for example), so that next step seems inevitable. That said, to be fair, there were also non-print 5e products on DM Guild before that, including monsters and species options. But those were in PDF and...

I like the Doom soundtrack. Recommend me more instrumental metal.

Andromida has done both Doom-esque tracks as well as progressive metal/djent stuff.

    D&D 5E (2024) Another D&D 2024 Monster Preview: The Kuo-Toa!

They do seem to be intentionally unclear, but at least they're presenting multiple options for the kuo-toa, rather than not saying much at all. A little more substance for those options would have been nice, though.

Project Sigil Project Sigil Updates: D&D's 3d Virtual Tabletop

Mainly a character builder at first, but by the time of "Project Morningstar" it was including VTT elements like virtual dice, map sharing, etc. Apparently too ambitious, of course.

Project Sigil Project Sigil Updates: D&D's 3d Virtual Tabletop

I assume @doctorhook is referring to Dungeonscape, later rebranded as "Project Morningstar", which was a VTT project for 5e originally promoted at Gen Con 2014. (Spoilers, it didn't work out.)

D&D 5E (2024) Have the 2024 PHB Reveals changed your intentions re: purchasing D&D 2024/25?

Partly repeating myself from the kuo-toa thread: Lore is less interesting to read than 2014, with fewer implied adventure and world-building ideas. The slightly more condensed, slightly less "natural language" statblock is also slightly harder for me to parse (especially the reactions). I had...

D&D 5E (2024) Has the new PHB reveals made you want to stick to an older edition of D&D, or to move onto a 5e-adjacent RPG?

The PHB reveals have pretty much solidified that I'm sticking with 2014 5e, though I have considered bringing ideas from older editions into future campaigns (after my recent experience with running OD&D). The 2025 Monster Manual could still possibly get me to switch to 2024 5e, if I liked it as...

D&D 5E (2024) Have the 2024 PHB Reveals changed your intentions re: purchasing D&D 2024/25?

I was disinterested in the 2024 PHB prior to Gen Con, and the new info hasn't really changed my mind. There are a few details that look neat, but they're balanced out by reveals I don't like. The book that could persuade me to try 2024 is the new Monster Manual... but the previews so far are...

D&D 5E (2024) Skeleton Entry and Stat Blocks from New Monster Manual

OK, so I wasn't the only one who got that impression. I'd say both 4E and 2024 seem to be aiming for efficiency, which is why the focus on structure and brevity. (Though these are still far more "natural language" than 4E.)

D&D 5E (2024) Skeleton Entry and Stat Blocks from New Monster Manual

Excellent! A bludgeoning axe! Or maybe it's an illusionary axe, only there to menace and deceive players, so they're not ready when the skeleton does bludgeoning damage instead. This wasn't an error, clearly, it was an opportunity for us to be creative!

D&D 5E (2024) Skeleton Entry and Stat Blocks from New Monster Manual

Heh. RAW, I suppose that's true! I guess it menaces the living with its slashing-damage greataxes, then puts them away and just does bludgeoning damage in combat instead. And then the greataxes disappear after the monster is defeated, which is why they're not listed as gear! It all makes sense...

    D&D 5E (2024) I just got a 2024 PHB From Gen Con. AMA!

They didn't include Mystara (which has been mentioned a surprising number of times in the past few years) but did include Dark Sun (which they pretty much gave up on updating). Very unexpected.
