Dragonmeet, London UK, Sat 2nd Dec

I'll be coming along tomorrow. Do a bit of shopping, play a few games - I'm looking forward to it :D

    Game settings and copyright law

As Crothian says. If you have any intention of publishing this thing (for free or otherwise) at any point in the future, then DO NOT use copyright material without the owners explicit permission. Failure to do so could result in a law case against you at the very worst and, at the very least...

WoTC Gelatinous Cube Mini - Empty or not?

Ideally, I'd prefer it to have a figure inside, partially dissolved. But if that proved too difficult (or expensive), then a clear one would do.

Character Death - what do you do?

Yep, that's what we do, mostly, otherwise all too often characters will choose not to be raised. I juggle the starting xp according to the xp the dead character had (ie, if he was near to levelling up, the new character will have slightly higher xp, etc), but also include other factors (did...

Is it O.K. for the DM to kill a character when the player isn't there?

It has happened a couple of times in games I run :heh: At the start of a new campaign, we set out ground rules concerning how the game will run. One of these is what we do when players are absent - whether we have other players run them or whether they just become "shadow" characters who are...

Any Update on Gary's Health ?

Yeah, a good friend of mine had shingles some years back and it absolutely wiped him out. He still bears the scars - quite literally. It really can be very nasty indeed. Here's wishing Gary a speedy recovery and good health soon!

    Make up some funny quotes!

"It's okay, I can drop the wall of fire as soon as I stop concentrating" says the wizard firmly (without due reference to the PHB). 14 rounds later... "But I thought you said you were immune to fire" says the wizard to the lifeless body of the favored soul, after finishing him off in said wall...

Scourge of the Howling Horde [SPOILERS]

I don't really agree with that assessment. In an adventure in my present campaign, I placed a wyrmling blue dragon in a room. The party (they were 2nd level) has already used the majority of their resources and really should have retreated, but they were stuck in the 'one more room' syndrome...

    Bronze Weapons

There's a whole bunch of stuff about Weapons and Technology in Arms & Armor, including stuff on bronze weapons and armor. Don't know if that is any use to you.

    Castle Staff?

You might want to try the random commoner's table and the random expert's table. It's not exactly what you're after, but offers a lot of good stuff you might be able to utilize.

WotC Game Day - Anyone play?

Yep, we got TPK'd and had loads of fun in the process. The deathskull essentially wiped us out, as we had to use up most of our resources to knock it out. We then came up againt the magma hurler, which used up the remaining resouces. The final battle against the hellcat was a breeze - for the...

Expedition to Castle Ravenloft: Maps and the Delve Format

I thought the maps were pretty good. They're much clearer and it makes it easier to transfer these encounters to a battlemap. A good map with every encounter is very useful IMO. I don't think they're a replication of a 'larger not included map' - I think they've just been designed that way...

    0-level spells?

Ghost sound is very effective when used well. Acid splash and ray of frost can be very effective when combined with sneak attack (or other such ability). I've also seen mage hand used effectively in combat (by closing a door to delay the enemy advance, etc). Detect magic/read magic as already...

How did you learn to GM?

Trial and error here too! With a lot of trial and a lot of error along the way (and, hopefully, a lot more to come too :) )

    Action Points -- Too Good?

Yes, that does happen occasionally. However, the PC's are often pretty much out of Action Points by the time they're near levelling. Not always, though, so it does happen occasionally. Action Points are so ingrained in our game that the PC's use them regularly for all manner of things. In...

    Action Points -- Too Good?

Action Points work well in our game and they've definately helped save characters from certain death. We tend to keep things in the open, so action points help when everything goes wrong. We use a 'use them or lose them' policy (ie they don't carry over into future levels), so they tend to get...

Do You Kill off your PC's.

Hey, I can do a count :D In the present campaign (3rd/4th level): 1 death (2 if you include the player who used their fate point to keep them alive). In the previous campaign (reached 13th level): 22  They tended to die in batches, either through tough encounters or bad decision...

Level 1-12 around red hand of doom?

Here's what I'm doing: I started with a generic, non red-hand related adventure from Dungeon which pushed the party to 2nd level. This gave them a chance to get to know a little bit about the city (not Brindol, as I'm running my own city) They then were hired by the local merchant's guild to...

    Who Kills Your PCs?

Rarely, but it does happen from time to time. The most unusual one was when a necromancer, after having cast kiss of the vampire on himself (from Libris Mortis), was unconscious and received a cure light from the party cleric... and he promptly died (as, of course, cure spells have the same...
