    D&D 5E (2014) Does RAW have a place in 5e?

That trust IS a two way street. I trust my players not to powergame and search for every scrap of advantage they can eke out of the rules and I trust them not to worry that I'm out to screw them over when I interpret the rules in a particular way. However, a large part of the DM's job is to...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Spawn of Kyuss

The worm seems pretty nasty compared to most effects I've seen in 5e (I don't think there's anything which is straight 'have access to Remove Disease or you will die' but I haven't dug too deeply so I may be mistaken). My gut reaction would be to change it so that the victim needs three...

D&D 5E (2014) The Art of the Secret Door

Kind of a 'door', kind of a trap I guess... years and years ago I was running a dungeon which had been designed by a magician who enjoyed aggravating his enemies purely for the sake of annoying them. The party were working their way up his tower full of pink dye oozes and whistle-blowing golems...

    D&D 5E (2014) Campaign Concept (Feedback Welcome!)

Thanks for all the thoughts guys! Its really helped me clarify a lot of the campaign details in my head - though I'm probably still going to shy away from making one of the PCs the avatar (for the reasons mentioned earlier), and the weapons sound like a cool-but-separate concept for a game...

D&D 5E (2014) as a new DM, how do I handle a group of wanna be thieves?

The DM's fun is just as important as the players' - it is at least worth explicitly stating 'you guys this is not what I had in mind, can we try and rework it?' Before trying to run a game you don't find fun.

D&D 5E (2014) as a new DM, how do I handle a group of wanna be thieves?

Yeah, basically, this is about talking to your players and figuring out if the game you want to run is the game they want to play. You can't force people to play more 'seriously', and if you ramp up the consequences - well that's fine, but it soon becomes 'and now your PCs are dead/in jail...

    D&D 5E (2014) Campaign Concept (Feedback Welcome!)

I can see the thinking behind making one of the PCs the avatar - but I probably won't go that route in this campaign, mostly because the last high fantasy game I ran (using Anima: Beyond Fantasy), we already played with that and had one of the PCs as the living embodiment of a school of magic...

    D&D 5E (2014) Campaign Concept (Feedback Welcome!)

I like that idea - ageing the kid up a bit does make a lot of sense, thanks! And I'll keep my fingers crossed for the DMG helping out with the Aboleths. I figure after they've managed to rescue the kid once, that's really the point where the game direction becomes way more in their hands than...

D&D 5E (2014) We are betting a LOT on the DMG.... will it deliver?

A lot of these I wouldn't expect necessarily, and I'm not sure their inclusion is really very likely. From what I remember of 3e, all the 'variant skill' rules, expanded races, epic rules, and so on would be better placed in a PHB2 type expansion if they are going to be seen at all. Downtime...

    D&D 5E (2014) Campaign Concept (Feedback Welcome!)

Oh yeah, no doubt re: planning. I just find it helpful to sketch out the various 'factions' involved to help guide the action. It lets me set up the key 'bad guys' and figure what they might do if/when the PCs throw their careful plans out of whack (the cult, for instance, may turn on the orcs...

    D&D 5E (2014) Campaign Concept (Feedback Welcome!)

So first up, hello! I've been peeking at the forum for the past couple days since I picked up the DND 5th player's guide and monster manual. You guys seem like a cool bunch so I figured I'd ask for feedback on a campaign idea here (since I am fairly sure my RL tabletop groups don't read ENWorld...
