Crazy campaign idea: Paranoia meets the Masquerade meets generic fantasy.

No, it couldn't work as a campaign setting. I think it would be a neat one-off joke, but I think the joke would get old really quickly. It doesn't have the legs to last a campaign. Now you might say that Paranoia does something similiar with all the PCs being mutants and members of secret...

Tell Me Everything There Is To Know About Push, Pull & Slide

I have a question about forced movement and large creatures. (That is, creatures occupying 4 or more squares.) Can you use forced movement to move a creature into a space that it has to squeeze to occupy, because its allies or your allies are blocking one of the squares it needs? Second...

    Oots 694

I can't buy that. If they showed up and the illusion popped up first thing, then yes. They've spent hours (days?) seaching this patch of desert with spells and skills. If there were something there to find, especially if it was a Gate-defending dungeon complex, then they would have found it...

E3: Prince of Undeath final skill challenge is bad (Spoiler)

I wasn't sure I was getting this right at first. So you're saying that the Raven Queen doesn't start dying from the shard _unless_ the party formally agrees to participate in the skill challenge? Well. All I can say is that if I actually wanted the PCs to be trying to do the challenge at the...

New Dark Sun Info - Free Tyr and the Mountains of Athas

In addition to all your points, the key part of Danzauker's question for me is, "a couple of days later". This is an extraordinary event, and immortal beings are probably reluctant to react in haste. Maybe one of the other SKs will send an army to conquer Tyr... eventually. But armies of...

    Wizard daily power question

Oh, I've noticed occasions when it was rather useful. For instance, Stinking Cloud is a really awesome Daily... but not if you're going up against undead and their standard poison immunity. And being able to switch to fire-based dailies when going up against trolls was nice. However, being...

Character ability v. player volition: INT, WIS, CHA

So if a smart but physically weak character is confronted with a situation that should require great physical ability to solve and manages to work his way around it through cleverness, then that's horrible roleplaying? After all, he was defined as the guy who is supposed to lose physical...

Character ability v. player volition: INT, WIS, CHA

I think there are aspects of a character's personality and mental ability that are simply not covered under mechanical statistics and are not meant to be covered under mechanical statistics. Let's take the example of "puzzle solving" and divorce it from the artifical standard of some chess...

    Player Skill in Skill Challenges

This is sort of a spin-off from the Storytelling vs. Roleplaying thread where I think an interesting question came up. What do you (as in responders to this thread) view as being the part of skill challenges where player skill comes into play? As a follow-up to your answer, do you view the...

    It's Dark Sun

As I stated earlier in the thread, I don't think there will be much support for Templar PCs, but I think there will be a lot of support for ex-Templar PCs. It's a fairly obvious background to make for someone in Dark Sun who wants to use the 'former bad boy trying to redeem himself' archetype...

    It's Dark Sun

Here's my take on Templars. It's not a class; it's a job description. Anyone who is a direct servant of the sorcerer-kings gets called a Templar, no matter what sorts of powers or skills they have. Some draw power directly from prayers or pacts with the Sorcerer-Kings and some are just brutal...

Dealing with a DM who takes things too literally

I think mucking about with xp to control advancement rate is fair enough. I've known DMs who don't even bother with xp and just tell everyone, "Okay, level up now," when they think it's appropriate. As someone else said, that is pretty much supposed to be how it works. Your job as the...

Would I be missing the point if I gave the Adept class higher spell levels?

Or or if you're worried about giving out too much loot, just give low level casters the spells you want them to use and don't worry about how they got them. So maybe this goblin has the stats of a level 1 druid, can't wildshape, can cast Fog Cloud but not any other level 2 spells. Because he...

    New PH3 Class....The Psion!

Is this a playtest version of the class, or is it set in stone? If it's a playtest version, maybe you can e-mail them and then can correct it by crippling Mind Thrust.

    OotS #661 is up!

The thing for me is, Redcloak didn't seem god-level impressed by the Monster. He clearly thought it would be useful, but there was no, 'With this on our side, we cannot fail to triumph!' Nor has he ever shown the slightest concern about his ability (or at least, Xykon's ability) to handle the...

Visions of Avarice trivializes melee encounters?

I've used it twice in actual play. There's no doubt it changes the terms of an encounter (as arguably a Daily should). However, all foes so far have had either a ranged back-up attack or been paired with a leader-type who could move them out of the effect.

Visions of Avarice trivializes melee encounters?

All I can say is, to me it's obviously refering to the same minor action. If it weren't, there would be no need to sustain the power to repeat the attack. I suppose CustServ must rule!

    Helpless doesn't Hinder

Here is what it says in the Compendium about being helpless. [B] [/LIST]</H1>Not a blessed word about not taking actions.

    Helpless doesn't Hinder

I suppose the circumstances just weren't very favorable. It was a very high defense enemy, so even with combat advantage our guys had some trouble hitting. Both our strikers are ranged strikers, so less love there. Still, it's one of those situations where the game rules cause cognitive...

    Helpless doesn't Hinder

Last night I used 'Face of Death' (I think), a level 9 Wizard daily attack spell from Arcane Power. If you hit an opponent and they fail their first save, this imposes the 'Helpless' condition. Naturally I went in thinking this would be a really awesome power. Then I actually made an enemy...
