I Like The Simple Fighter [ducks]

But doesn't making the complex/tactical Fighter a separate class run into the problem of the Fighter's definition/raison d'etre? If the Fighter is supposed to be "the best at fighting," someone who "master[s] mundane tactics and weapon skills," then how do we explain the fact that this other...

Elephant in the room: rogue and fighter dailies.

What if instead of Dailies, Rogues and Fighters could take half-damage on an attack to pull off a great effect as I suggested in my fighter thread? That way, rogues and fighters could do cool stuff all day long (so we don't get the daily realism problem) but wouldn't completely blow out balance.

    Fighter Maneuvers

The basic idea is interesting, but I don't like those maneuvers. For one thing, really only one of them is actually some form of maneuver and it needs some work (I'd prefer having it be an attack against each enemy in melee range, 15 feet I just can't picture). I do think it's going to draw...

Combining the Simple and Tactical Fighter - A Proposal

In reading through the forums here and at wizards.com, there seems to be a very sharp division between those who want the "simple" fighter who swings his sword every round and does it more often as they level and those who liked the AEDU fighter from 4th edition, and both sides see the victory...

    First Impressions?

I'm not seeing that, necessarily, although I will admit that the pregen fighter isn't as obviously interesting as some of the others. The downside is that I think they did too good a job on the melee cleric in comparison to the fighter, where the Defender feat and Hold the Line allow for some...

    First Impressions?

Agreed; I just think it should be consistent in the text. Stormonu - I do like that, but I'd like consistency at least with the written default conditions, so that the DM's flexibility is applying to creative things that the players think up that the book doesn't have, such as: "I cut his...

    First Impressions?

    1. It might just be my own game theory philosophy, but I prefer combat statuses to be somewhat logical; prone is perfect in this regard, in that hitting the deck makes it harder for you to get by missiles but make it harder for you to dodge someone spitting you with a sword. To take Frightened...

    When Fantasy Racism gets stupid

I think there's two separate things here: One is the difference between hostile and evil. A Drow might want to capture me, sell me into slavery, and then sacrifice my heart to Lloth - that makes the drow hostile, but does it make the drow inherently evil? After all, plenty of human cultures...

    First Impressions?

Quick question regarding Advantage and statuses and various sneaking things: If a status gives a creature disadvantage, does that disadvantage in turn give advantage to the person fighting the creature? I'm thinking of something like a creature being Blinded/Frightened/Intoxicated - is that...

    When Fantasy Racism gets stupid

I think there's a happy medium between "all members of this humanoid race are metaphysically evil" and "orcs are noble savages," and I think that medium is called resource scarcity in a quasi-medieval environment. One of the things that is often obscured in fantasy is how little surplus there...

New Multiclass Concept: Same powers, swap class abilities

Warlock/Rogue might be a tad bit too powerful, if you give the Rogue access to Shadow Walk.

    Jägerkin

The Jager is a construct, but they're more of a "here, drink this" or a Jekyll/Hyde construct than a Frankenstein. Essentially, a Jager is a normal human (they've been known to have human descendants) who drinks the Jagerdraught or Jagerbrau (developed by Vlad "the Blasphemous" Heterodyne) and...

    Stealth & Perception

Question: what counts as cover and what counts as concealment inside and outside of combat? I've never been too clear on this, and would like to get better at using stealth.

D&D 4E Obligatory dump stats in 4e: the irrelevance of Intelligence

I've understood for a while that Intelligence suggests your education and acquired skill, whereas Wisdom suggests your intuitive and creative thinking power. I think the skills associated with each skill very much indicate this: Wizards have high Intelligence because they study the use of magic...

    D&D 4E Warhammer World Fantasy 4E D&D ..House Rules/House Rulebook

Considering that it's replacing a Teleport per Encounter, Move or Shift per Encounter is rather weak. Possibly to the extent of making Eladrin a sub-optimal pick, consider that Elves get to re-roll an attack. That's pretty big.

    D&D 4E Warhammer World Fantasy 4E D&D ..House Rules/House Rulebook

Cool stuff: Some thoughts: For Asur/Eladrin - instead of the teleport, why not give them an extra standard action as an encounter power, to simulate "Speed of Asuryan." Maybe allow Rangers to use firearms with their abilities? Cleric - Sigmarites should have Turn Undead/Chaos, should not be...

The pendulum swings back: Humans suck once again

The extra at-will is more important than people realize: you only get 2, you get them when you start, and you don't get any others. Only humans get three. Which means that when your group is in trouble, when you've burned through your 4 encounters and your 4 dailys, that you've got one more...

Eladrins, Tieflings, Dragonborn Too Far Outside Standard Fantasy?

Eladrin - actually are more evocative of the Fair Folk and the Sidhe of Celtic myth then your usual fantasy elf, which I like. For example, the emphasis on Underhill/Fairie as an indicator - these people aren't from around here, they are strange and awe-inspiring. IMHO, I like these kinds of...

    How to gain Combat Advantage

Well, some thoughts on Combat Advantage: -Stealth is very handy, so I would attempt to stealth more or less all the time, so that you can start the fight with a Sneak Attack. Also, if you can stay behind the enemy's front ranks, most of them will be facing the other direction, which should give...
