    The D&D Business Model

I’ve read through the rampant 4E rumors and they have me worried. I don’t want to see support for 3.x dropped in favor of a card- and miniature-collectible game labeled D&D, especially if that new game isn’t an RPG. It’s almost inconceivable to me that such changes could happen… until I...

Healer (from MHB): Is this a good class?

My vote is no, because I think the designers were too worried about the issue above. What does the healer give up? Medium and heavy armor, shields (even wooden ones), domain powers, a drop to the poor BAB, spontaneous casting of healing spells, and turning undead. What does the healer gain...

    The AD&D 1st Edition bard class ...

I never played a 1E bard but always found the concept intriguing. Just recently I was flipping through my old 1E PHB and gave them a thorough read, and was surprised to realize that they get all of the druid's special abilities -- not sure how I'd missed that all these years. And I wonder if...

Whatever happened to Primus - the One & the Prime?

You know, I still have five sad little paper tetrahedrons with numbers scribbled along the edges sitting on a shelf next to my PC -- only way I could figure out those fourth dimension interfaces. What obscure 1E monster should I feature next? How about pech? Have they received the 3 or 3.5...

Whatever happened to Primus - the One & the Prime?

Thanks very much to both of you! I enjoyed writing it!

Whatever happened to Primus - the One & the Prime?

Why yes, yes indeed! A tertian appears at the end of "The Quicksilver Hourglass" and makes reference to "the One and the Prime" before engaging in some law-vs-chaos banter with Morwel, the Queen of Stars. For reference, that's issue #123, and the adventure in question was written by me!

    An interesting art comparison

No, she was blond. Although they do both appear to be lying on slabs of chocolate cake.

When was the Golden Age of Dragon magazine?

Issues 67 through 72, with Gygax at the height of his powers (and Easley as well). An issue of Dragon then was like a quality new hardcover now in terms of impact. OK, it also happens to be when I started reading it, but I'm sure I'm looking at this objectively...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Gary, thanks as always for a quick reply! Would that repository be Treasure Table III from the DMG? Cheers!

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Fair enough! Sorry, I didn't mean "all-powerful" in the game-breaking, greedy-player way; more that it's the spell to call on when you have a problem without other solution, which I believe is the same usage you're citing from Mordenkainen's experiences (although I see how my post doesn't...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Gary, is this just pure theoretical musing, or have you thought through spells over 9th level at some point? What might they be like? Given that one well-known character of yours is a mage of greater than 20th level (although I never saw him statted-out with an Int >18)... I had always...

What monster types have been done to death?

Undead and constructs. Even in a magic-heavy world, I believe they should be encountered 1/10th as often as they are, and therefore I don't need 77 varieties of each. But looking at my shelf I see Draconomicon, Libris Mortis, Lords of Madness... How far away can Golems Galore be?

    Tucker's Kobolds for v.3.5

Ages ago, Roger Moore wrote an editorial in Dragon about "Tucker's Kobolds," runty little things that gave high-level characters fits with their nasty tactics and equipment. I'd like to hear some v.3.5 takes on this idea. I'm thinking monsters of CR = party level - 6 or more (by v.3.5, these...

Can a dozen orcs challenge a 17th level party?

Fair enough. From the title of your thread, I was expecting "Tucker's Kobolds" for v.3.5. Hmmm, maybe I'll start such a thread...

Can a dozen orcs challenge a 17th level party?

Maggot, I'm not sure what you're asking for here. Your characters want to fight 12 typical orcs, no bells and whistles, for the sake of mopping up opponents who can't possibly challenge them. You're saying you're going to do that for them. Most replies are trying to give you bells and...

    Inspiring Paintings

Another post thanking you for a good thread. I have an illustration from my one published adventure (The Quicksilver Hourglass, Dungeon 123) hanging over my desk. Nothing like an artist's interpretation of your own madness for inspiration.

    Lame Prestige Classes

I see where you're coming from, but this could just as easily be said about the ranger or paladin -- there isn't much mythology to support them as spell-casters, but standard D&D is a magical world, so spell-casting is not a rare ability. I would probably just de-emphasize the spell-ness of it...

The Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun - your experiences?

I had a discussion about this module and S4 with the esteemed author just a few weeks ago... let's see if I can manage this linking... argh, no, embarrassing lack of message board skills shows... starts with #1365 on this page... http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=125997&page=35&pp=40

TSR Example from the worst TSR adventure module(s) ever published

Can't stop laughing/crying... I think I hurt my spleen... "% is liar" can be found in Best of Dragon #1, and if I'm interpreting the sub-head correctly, it's originally from The Strategic Review #3... making it an ancient reference indeed.
