    Just discovered Castles and Crusades

I see where you are going with this and it makes sense. Over a decade ago I looked at doing something similar, CB reduced by two ever 3 levels vs level bonuses. And it worked but players (especially from more modern gaming tables) tended to like their bonuses going up vs difficulty going down...

    Just discovered Castles and Crusades

Has your friend played C&C yet or just have the books? Maybe you need to run a few sessions to show the ability of the system.

Why are you lowering the CB? Wouldn't it be easier for the player to: A) roll a d20, add level, add modifier And then the CK can: B) take CB 12 or 18 (depending on the prime/non-prime of the player) and add a difficulty number to it, between 1-20 to get a number to roll equal to or above?

But how can you sell an MCU like multiverse if the rules keep changing?

The question may be; who gave more freedom for artist to create their own vision of the setting or action vs what the board wanted.

I feel this is so much of it. I'm not a huge fan of Wayne Reynolds but his concept of Eberron gives it a life of it's own. A that I can see is seperate from something like Placescape. Same with DiTerlzzi. That dirty victorian like watercolor truly made Planescape unique. The art just seems...

I agree on the books explanation issue, but that's not how it works. This is a d20 system like 3e. 12 & 18 are the Challenge Base that the CK uses and the difficulty goes up from there Depending on the Challenge Level. Players roll d20, add attribute modifier, and level IF it is a skill the...

OGL: What Are The Publishers Saying [UPDATED]

But if you can build an app to 'act' as a DM for a new, younger audience who has less of an idea of what a DM is and more of how video games allow you to play and 'open world' game, does it matter? If I was head honcho who has part of the computer industry much longer than the TTRPG industry, is...

    Just discovered Castles and Crusades

My old group from the 2e days gave humans +1 weapon proficiency & +1 non-weapon proficiency advancements just to make them on par w/demi-humans. When I first saw C&C that was one of the things that brought me into the fold so long ago.

Honestly I'm into Warlock! & Cepheus Engine right now so I've been watching this literally w/a bag of popcorn. Though I guess my hopes for an updated True20 are gone. :(

    Just discovered Castles and Crusades

It's just a different way of doing things. D&D 5e has the expectation of getting to 20th level. C&C games i've seen usually cap out around lvl 12. So instead of waiting for the +6 proficiency bonus of high levels for characters, I am using a +10 bonus by lvl 10. And since the difficulty...

    Just discovered Castles and Crusades

Siege engine is for skills & saving throws. Attacks are the base to hit ability mod (basically 3e attack model). So a fighter starts at +1 base attack at lvl 1 and it increases 1 per lvl. Wizard starts at +0 and it goes up every two lvls. But (besides a class ability from fighters) you...

D&D 5E (2024) Hit Dice as an alternate resource?

When I ran 5e my enemies used hit dice for a bonus to attack (each gave a +1), damage (added HD roll to damage), AC bonus (each gave +1 for one turn), or an extra regular attack (limit 1 xtra per turn for minor enemies, 2 xtra per turn for larger enemies). I regulated it to 2 or less non-class...
