What piece of media did hype kill for you?

I dislike this so much. What they think will encourage you to seek out said series will only serve to drive me away. It's actually what made me avoid all the hoopla surrounding Firefly. Now let me reiterate, I don't think it's a bad series, but I really don't get all the hype around it. I...

What piece of media did hype kill for you?

Whether it be a movie, a tv show, a video game or a book. What piece of media disappointed you greatly because of the unhealthy levels of hype surrounding it? Alternatively you would have avoided said media because of the aforementioned hype machine. For me the answer comes easy, anything by...

    Your relationship with social media

Only facebook, where I get most of my news on stuff that interests me and chat with friends and acquaintances when face to face is not possible. Have never tried Twitter, and probably never will. It's too easy to sound stupid with such a limited character count. No Instagram either, since I'm...

When someone else ruins your enjoyment of a something

Sorry. Didn't think you wouldn't be familiar with what I was talking about. Whiplash is a 2014 movie about a drumming prodigy played by Miles Teller who is pushed to be his best by a relentless (one could argue psychotic) music teacher played by J.K. Simmons (who won an Oscar for Best Supporting...

Forgive me for saying so, but that sounds almost like the plot of Whiplash.

    Avengers: Age of Ultron (spoilers)

I thought it was good. Slightly better than the first film but not as good last year's Guardians of the Galaxy. James Spader was great as Ultron, though his take is much different from the one in the comics. While he was an effective antagonist and suitable foil to our heroes, he still falls...

    The new Hobbit movie

Completely agree with this. If PJ wasn't so intent on linking it with LOTR and just focused on Bilbo and the Dwarves, they could have easily cut this trilogy down to the original 2 film plan that they originally had.

Beyond Bond & Bourne: Other secret agent/espionage movies

Are you referring to the recent movie starring Gary Oldman, or the TV miniseries starring Alec Guinness? I much prefer the latter. It's brilliant. If the OP doesn't mind his spy movies mixed with superhero action, then Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a worthy recommendation.

    The new Hobbit movie

As long as the film kept focus on Bilbo and the Dwarves, it was quite good. Unfortunately Peter Jackson stuffed it full of crap that could have been easily cut out, like that overwrought Third Act that seems to go on forever. If you want my more detailed review (which is full of SPOILERS btw)...

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (trailer)

So, just watched this yesterday. So what's my verdict? It was.. okay. There are some definite highlights to be found, along with some disappointments. That's unfortunately what you get when you adapt a single novel into three gorramed movies filled to the brim with stuff that could have been cut...

Why Do Batman Fans Hate Christopher Nolan?

I don't hate Christopher Nolan. Then again, I'm not much of a Batman fan nowadays. But I give the man credit for giving us the best cinematic interpretation of the Dark Knight in like forever. Unlike Burton's offbeat and weird direction or Joel Schumacher's campyness, Nolan gave us a take...

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (no spoilers in OP; can't promise about the rest of the thread!)

Suit yourself man. I just feel Marc Webb has done a far better job of capturing Spider-Man on film than Sam Raimi ever did. And no offense to Tobey Maguire, but Andrew Garfield is closer to classic Peter Parker/Spider-Man of the Stan Lee and Steve Ditko stories. Anyway enough of that, lest we...

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (no spoilers in OP; can't promise about the rest of the thread!)

I like both. And I give credit to the first Iron Man for starting the whole MCU, but I thought Winter Soldier was a better film. And while Spider-Man 2 is great, The Amazing Spider-Man is a much better film adaptation of Spidey. I'm really forward to ASM 2.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (no spoilers in OP; can't promise about the rest of the thread!)

Frankly speaking, I thought this was the greatest film adaptation of a Marvel property. Better than X-Men First Class and even better than my favorite MCU film, Thor. And it's great to see a film treatment of Captain America that hits all the goalposts, after such stinkers such as the 1940's...

    Hobbit review thread

Well... Might as well chime in as to my thoughts to this film. This was a HUGE improvement over An Unexpected Journey. Much faster paced and definitely less boring bits that made the first film a bit of a slog to watch. WARNING!!! SOME SPOILERS AHEAD First the PROS. Smaug was...

So the movie's out now in the US. Is anyone else going to share what they thought of it?

    Thor: The Dark World (SPOILERS)

Watched it, liked it. But it's not as good as the first film, which is one of my all time favorite comic book flicks. Let me now go into detail what I thought of it... WARNING!!! MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!!! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! LIKES Thor and Loki - As with the first film, the success...

    Robocop (2014) trailer is live

Frank Miller was never involved in the original. Only with the sequels. And frankly, I thought the ideas he brought to Robocop were crap.

    Robocop (2014) trailer is live

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INmtQXUXez8 What do I think? I'm pleased that director Jose Paglia is going in a different direction with this film. He's not doing a shot for shot remake of Paul Verhoven's original, but doing his own twist on it. From viewing the trailer, this Robocop looks to...
