    What is Greyhawk?

So did I, primarily because it was British first time out. Know this? The Saltmarsh Murders The Saltmarsh Murders: Amazon.co.uk: Gladys Mitchell: 9780099526193: Books

    What is Greyhawk?

Not true. I really know very little about FR but I am quite happily muddling through and we are having fun. But I sympathize. For a long time I felt I either had to fully understand a setting and all it's lore or play a home brew. After about thirty years I realised that every published setting...

Why do you play games other than D&D?

I like the way different systems generate different effects, moods, stories, or how my mind interacts with the mechanics. It can also be that some systems and settings are **so** symbiotic that to experience one you have to use the other.

    D&D 5E (2014) BECMI for 5e?

I utterly hate the implicit racism of race as class, always have, always will. I never hear of people proposing White Caucasian as class Black Negroid as class Oriental as class

Why do people still play older editions of D&D? Are they superior to the current one?

It's not at all impossible to convert, just don't try to make it an exact fit. Look at the options in DMG to dial the grittiness of the game a little. Practice balancing encounters to your players, 5e does softball things a bit, so dial up the opposition until you get the sweet spot.

    Microscope and Beyond

When I used Microscope the game was just in one period of history in about the middle, but we all shared and owned the history that had made it, *and* the future that was to come. That's why it's best to to not be too specific.

Facing demon lords at full strength

I want a demon for a big bad boss fight. The PCs will be at full strength. They have magical weapons. They could have allies. The story so far means the demon will be unprepared and not in a lair. But the players are 3 * 3rd level... Warlock, Barbarian and Rogue. Could I risk a Glabrezu? I know...

    Bree-Land Region Guide: A Review

Tolkien believed and stated that stories are there to be adopted, adapted and retold. So, it's cool to say: "This is our Middle Earth, we are starting at X but in this parallel, nothing is predetermined. Oh, and cousin Frodo just got killed by a dark Rider on the Bree Road.." I bet JRR would...

Removing Hit Points from the Game

IMHO it's the worst. But that's just my view and I have grown to love the whole 5e and 13Age class level games alongside others

Removing Hit Points from the Game

Play True20 from Green Ronin. But really you can't fix this in D&D, it's baked in to the system too deep. Play an RPG that doesn't have this inflated escalation: RuneQuest GURPS Fantasy Savage Worlds Genesys Symbaroum Are some that I like. YMMV

    Capture and Player Agency

Players *hate* the loss of agency this creates. Skip the prologue. Let them backfill what happened in narration. As in 'you could have run, why did you stay and get captured?' 'Who did u save by your actions?' This allows them to build a heroic back story from a defeat. OR.. tell them they...

Mind if I pedantically complain that monster manuals butcher myth/folklore/fairytale?

See essay by EE Simbalist in Chivalry and Sorcery circa late 70s. It's a D&D thing..
