D&D 5E (2014) Favorite "Against the Grain" builds that are still effective

There is one way around that: Go to a Con or other event with Fai Chen's and buy your character a cantrip scroll for the out-of-season spell. The next cantrip slot you gain from leveling, learn the new cantrip from the scroll.

D&D 5E (2014) 100 Trinkets: Curse of Strahd Edition (Collaborative effort)

    24. A wedding ring, covered in bite marks. Some of them are human. 25. Ten feet of hemp rope, tied into a noose at both ends. 26. A rusty shovel carved with names no one recognizes.

    D&D 5E (2014) Wednesday's Long-Lost Uncle Strahd

Crib shamelessly from Terry Pratchett's Carpe Jugulem. Strahd is a local tradition, some good sport for the local lads and lasses to fight or have fun with before they settle down. The servants all obsess over the right 'atmosphere' (setting up cobwebs, de-oiling the hinges, etc.) and Castle...

    Disengage

Disengage doesn't use any of your movement. Taking the Disengage action just means you are not subject to attacks of opportunity that round. After that, you can use your movement as usual.

    D&D 5E (2014) 13 Flavors of At-Will Damage

A scimitar would also work. Sadly, I think feats or extra multi-classing are the only ways to add a martial weapon proficiency.

Unearthed Arcana New Year Unearthed Arcana Brings Back Those Old 2E Kits

Not sure about overpowered, but Scout seems really front-loaded. Taking that one level as a Scout gives three good skill proficiencies, multiple maneuvers, and the ranger feature.

Thoughts on feat for an archer

I'm mostly a DM. The only battlemaster at my tables spends maneuvers like a drunken sailor trying to be a 4e warlord.

    D&D 5E (2014) 13 Flavors of At-Will Damage

Similar to the Master of Minor Magics at www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?464896-Help-me-make-a-Master-of-Minor-Magic , I wanted to see how efficiently a character could have an at-will attack for all thirteen damage types listed in the PHB. Turns out, pretty easily: First, the thirteen...

OrcPub Is An Unofficial Online Character Generator for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition

Very nice interface, will def. have to bookmark. One issue: It will only use STR for damage on weapons like rapier & shortsword. Not seeing a finess button or option.

    D&D 5E (2014) Building a better Treasure Room

Model it on the Cave of Wonders from Aladdin: There is one specific treasure they have to touch first, guided by some clue. Guess wrong or get greedy, and face the cave-in/summoned monsters/flood of molten gold.

D&D 5E (2014) The Joy of Wild Sorcery - Post your amazing surge stories here!

Best surge of my own: level one party, getting creamed by skeletons. My halfling wild mage surges, polymorphs himself into a sheep, and proceeds to destroy skeletons left and right with ramming attacks. Funniest I have seen: The tiefling wild mage had a bounty on his head, was ambushed by...

    Rip-dungeon-apart character

(also assuming 5E) Skill-wise, History and Investigation would be most useful for appraising valuables. For profession (background), the Guild merchant variant seems appropriate. Since this combo needs decent Intelligence, I'd recommend a Wizard, Eldritch Knight, or Arcane Trickster.
