D&D General Explaining D&D classes using the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Not by default: I think you're thinking Pathfinder 1E? They could do it in Pathfinder & 3.5. I don't remember editions before if their inspiring performances helped themselves or not, and never played 4th.

D&D General Explaining D&D classes using the Marvel Cinematic Universe

I really like those associations thematically. To me they all work. I just watch GotG last night and I can't believe I've never noticed that Peter Quill is absolutely bard-like. That's hilarious. He does totally defeat Ronan with a dance performance... and a Massive Con save with advantage...

D&D 5E (2014) Concentration mechanic can ruin plots in adventures

Charm Person doesn't have either concentration OR every round save mechanic. Neither does Mass Suggestion. Keep him at 10th level, give him a staff of charming and watch him charm more than enough people all day long. Give him 1 more level with Mass Suggestion which is not concentration...

    D&D 5E (2014) Zards Ban List?

Interesting idea. My house rule on crits is to do max damage on the 1st die and roll any after that. I don't think I'd want to combine that with adding the +10 from SS/GWM.

D&D 5E (2014) Enough is Enough: WotC needs to add "domain spells" to *existing* sorcerer subclasses

I would love this as well. It's a huge bummer to wait for 7 levels to get a 3rd metamagic option. I like the idea of using unselected at higher sorcery points.

D&D 5E (2014) How do you use cities in your campaigns?

I do a lot of city-based things, but also send them out from cities as bases of operations

D&D 5E (2014) Casting spells with a Verbal component underwater

Why does everyone always have to go to hyperbole? 5e is designed to give DM's much more freedom to rule things however they want for their game/table/interpretation. Crawford is the lead rule designer. He also offers advice for free on the webs on how to use/interpret those rules. No one is...

D&D 5E (2014) Enough is Enough: WotC needs to add "domain spells" to *existing* sorcerer subclasses

I do this for Wild Magic: 1st: chaos bolt, 3rd: mirror image, 5th: hypnotic pattern, 7th: confusion, 9th: maelstrom chaos bolt, mirror image, and confusion because they all have some randomized element to them. typnotic pattern and maelstrom because stylistically they seem chaotic. If bonus...

D&D 5E (2014) Casting spells with a Verbal component underwater

For fun: RAI there is no rule saying you can't cast. Crawford rules that you're not breathing at that point and immediately go to drowning.

D&D 5E (2014) Enough is Enough: WotC needs to add "domain spells" to *existing* sorcerer subclasses

I should clarify my earlier statement. At my table, I have 2 spells per spell level 1st-5th that are bonus spells, but each sorcerer gets to pick one at each level. At level up, these are open to swap between the two as your level that you can change, but only between the two. I feel like...

D&D 5E (2014) removing cantrips: what to give instead?

Given that cantrips are primarily used for combat... I guess the question is: is the goal to make casters less "all day combat" capable? If not, then weapon proficiencies, armor proficiencies both make sense. Extra slots for sure, regardless of why cantrips are removed. I'd shy away from...

    D&D General Favorite Characters

One of my favorite characters back in the day of 2e was a Dwarven Specialty Priest of Vergadain. He was CN and so... much... fun.

D&D 5E (2014) Would You Allow this Feat?

This is a feat? Just making sure. The weapon is new, but there is already Dragon armor in the DMG. It gives +1 to AC (over normal AC), advantage on saves vs. frightful presences, and resistance to the relevant energy type for the dragon, and you can detect the closest dragon of the same type...

Unearthed Arcana WotC Removes Latest Unearthed Arcana

I mean, I suppose you might be right. I've never heard the concept that he's NOT a god of some kind of love. I suppose Wikipedia is a bastion of "common sense", but here is what they say: I get that "love" is a mixed bag in english with a broad array of definitions. But that's why I have no...

On Magic Users and Darts: What's Up With That?

It certainly was in Baulder's Gate :) Classic. I am an optimizer. I saw it, I still defaulted to dagger because I was an optimizer. I optimized for the most situations possible.

Unearthed Arcana WotC Removes Latest Unearthed Arcana

Right the issue at hand is that some people are upset that the word "Love" was put at the top instead of "Charm". Is Cupid not a god of love? What is Cupid's arrows if not the same thing that people are complaining about? Taking away the target's agency via love. Narratively, you don't even...
