Evil Drow Statblocks to Return in Forgotten Realms Rulebooks Later This Year

While it doesn't really matter, the question I would have would be when did they start using "multiverse"? After a quick search, I see that DC comic books started using the idea of different versions of earth back in the 40s and of course we had Crisis on Infinite Earths in 1985. But did they...

Your point? Actually ... never mind. If you want to make a mountain out of a molehill I can't stop you.

Evil Drow Statblocks to Return in Forgotten Realms Rulebooks Later This Year

Crisis on Infinite Earths and the quote from Gygax I quoted earlier from the Unearthed Arcana book were both published in 1985. DC had multiple crossover events going back even further in the 1940s. On the other hand the term multiverse was coined in the 1870s so neither one can claim to have...

It makes you wonder if they're going to try to do more of it considering the job opening for a "worldbuilder".

Yeah, I've never been much of a comic book nerd so I wouldn't be surprised if the multiverse goes back away. But it's definitely been in D&D long, long, long before the MCU.

I posted a quote from Gygax on 1985 above. Does that mean Marvel stole it from D&D?

I guess I don't see any implications of ownership, just implications that if you want to take PCs from FR to Eberron to someone's home brew campaign world and it's not a big deal.

D&D Movie/TV Netflix Planning Forgotten Realms D&D TV Show With Stranger Things Producer

If you ever have the chance to visit the Tillamook rainforest in Oregon, it's pretty amazing. It typically rains every day. It's similar to Supernatural that theoretically travelled around the country to cities large and small and it was always obviously Vancouver. They once had a show set...

Evil Drow Statblocks to Return in Forgotten Realms Rulebooks Later This Year

It used to be quite common for people to bring characters from one DM's campaign world to another's. I guess I don't have an issue with it, I've had one PC that bounced multiple times and eventually became an NPC in my own home campaign.

Like this one from Dungeons and Dragons Fandom? "However, such as with our actual world, the expanses of the game multiverse will always have frontiers and unexplored territories. This fact, indeed, is what makes the AD&D game system so wonderful and appealing."— Gary Gygax, Unearthed Arcana...

So using the word planes which is a well defined word in D&D to describe a specific universe's structure to describe multiple universes is not confusing, but abbreviating D&D exists in multiple universes into D&D multiverse is terrible. If you say so. 🤷‍♂️ No, and this is the only time...

But that's confusing because planes are the prime material, ethereal, and so on.

Really? We've always been told that your Forgotten Realms can and will deviate from official Forgotten Realms (or any other setting). How is that not alternate history? Heck, I remember old articles about "What if a WW II tank division ended up in FR?"

So we have multiple universes. Abbreviated as multiverse. I don't see an issue.

There are only so many ways to say that there are multiple different campaign worlds that are all D&D. We've had this concept for a long time, that PCs could bounce from one setting to the next. Elminister visiting earth was a thing in a lot of the old Dragon magazines. Seems like an odd...

Evil Drow Statblocks to Return in Forgotten Realms Rulebooks Later This Year

There's a Stat Block Conversions table that has entries like a Drow should use Priest Acolyte and Drow Elite Warrior is now a Gladiator. But nothing that lists the specific species abilities. I guess I don't see it as a big deal, you're flipping from one entry to another anyway. They just...

I guess I didn't think of dragonborn having different styles of burps making them a distinct subspecies. But you are right, they now take the prize for most variants. I didn't think of those because they don't exist in my campaign world. 🤷‍♂️ I get it, the other species don't have things...

Sorry if that wasn't clear, it was just a complaint because the new PHB still has 3 subspecies while no other species does. Guess I should have used a different emoji.

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

I've considered banning it myself especially since you can take a feat to get access to a bit of flavor of the other classes.
