    D&D 3.x Still playing 3e? Share your 3.0 and/or 3.5 house rules

And I'm always happy to share. Unless it's coffee. That I share grudgingly.

    D&D 3.x Still playing 3e? Share your 3.0 and/or 3.5 house rules

This was a project for me! I started off with simple stuff, like Roll damage at the same time as attack, just in case. Rope Use is included with any other rope-adjacent skill. But that didn't cut it. There was bloat to trim like prestige classes, warlocks, Incarnum. Too many action types...

D&D General Sandwiches should exist in your fantasy world!

Good post, but I don't think Middle Earth and medieval Europe shared a restauranteur's guild. Bolivia, maybe.

    D&D 5E (2014) The "General Nature" of a Trap

"Stairs trap." "Alex, what was 'third edition?'" An obvious trap was either made by a novice trapmaker, or a conniving bard. If the PC rogue tells me, "I search for traps. Don't worry: expertise. I got 24. That's fire," my reply might be, "do you feel around for loose panels?" "Ew, no...

D&D General Sandwiches should exist in your fantasy world!

@Steampunkette made an interesting case for tacos in the other post . . . Well, you wouldn't want to eat with one of those hands unless toilet paper had been invented. But this is in the D&D forum. So, I'll use my pet water elemental as a bidet. Then I'm off to my kitchen to get the week-old...

    Darkvision Ruins Dungeon-Crawling

A little off track here, but we could say that darkvision ruins the Help action too. Alba: psst. Give me a hand over here. Brohq: Who said that? Alba: Me, genius. Now get over here. Brohq: Where's here? Alba: I thought you were a "scout." Just follow my voice. Brohq: Just because you can...

I might try scribbling on dead trees and passing that around. It works for GMing.

D&D General An Immodest Proposal: That's What the Bard Says!

Yorick sounds like Marvin, the paranoid bard-droid.

D&D General An Immodest Proposal: That's What the Bard Says!

I'd just like to mention, to those bards who are offended by Snarf's hate speech, that there are RPGs that have risen above and beyond the labels of character classes - and all are welcome there.

    D&D 5E (2024) Have You Pre-Ordered The 2024 MM?

I'll keep using my 3rd ed MM if d20srd.org doesn't cut it.

D&D 5E (2024) Wizards have a problem with Spellcasting stat blocks

This is how I'd do it. There seems to be a bit more room for art . . . and interpretation.

D&D 5E (2014) Can you hear the audible version of the Alarm spell if you are more than 60 feet away?

It tells the rules lawyers that someone no more than 60 feet away from the source will hear the sound no matter what. Outside that, no guarantees. That exact loudness varies depending on where you are listening.

D&D General How Saving Throws broke in modern D&D

Saves are pretty similar (the same?) in 5e and 6e. But since all classes use the same saving throw advancement (proficiency + ability bonus) there's no divergence. . . . unless "divergence" means "not all saves get the proficiency bonus." I'm fine with that - different classes are probably...

    D&D 5E (2024) BG3 is the new Skyrim

Pretty much. Although my head did explode when I watched this video on BG3 combat. I guess, after Mordhau, it's about impossible for me to go back to turn-based, D&D-rules combat on computer. I'll play the discursive version once in a while, though.

    Darkvision Ruins Dungeon-Crawling

Well, we're at least referencing D&D and other games that have an ability similar to darkvision. Which is a lot, I think. I think @Argyle King noted correctly that darkvision is an asset. The king didn't note what darkvision can remove from the play experience. So: What is lost by a party...

D&D General How Saving Throws broke in modern D&D

Looks like we're waiting to hear back from OP, but I just read this into it: "Diverging saving throws are saving throws that improve faster for one class than another class." On one hand, there's very little reason why level 20 in each class shouldn't end up with about the same hit points and...

D&D 5E (2024) DMG 2024: Is The Sandbox Campaign Dead?

The campaign advice, as described, accomplishes two goals for WotC: it makes newbie DMing easier, and it focuses DMs on new WotC products. Level up enough times, and a DM doesn't need advice on sandboxes. But let's also note that this leaves the door open for an Advanced DMG. "Buy, buy, buy...

D&D General How Saving Throws broke in modern D&D

Oddly, I think saving throws are on their way to recovery. Save vs. Petrification seems pulled out of thin air, but Proficiency with Constitution saves seems more intrinsic. If D&D would just realize that defending takes just as much effort as attacking, I might consider a 7th ed campaign.
