    D&D 3.x D&D 3E Design: The Unbalanced Cleric

They may not be mechanical, but they have an impact on the game just like any other game rule. The Urchin's ability to travel streets twice as fast as others could have a huge impact in a game. Outlander's ability to recall maps and gather extra food is impactful on games. There are many like...

D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk, and race options for Oerth PCs

I'd start with the classic races and then work with players that really feel like they want to play one of the more unusual ones. They need a great reason to do so and they need to understand what that will mean for them and the party in RP situations. I'd probably make sure the rest of the...

    D&D 3.x D&D 3E Design: The Unbalanced Cleric

I guess in the mechanical application of those spells, yes. But the when, how, where, in what order, etc., IMO, should be different based on the character's outlook (as determined by background and the traits, etc therein). I suppose what's at the base level here, is that I don't care if two...

    D&D 3.x D&D 3E Design: The Unbalanced Cleric

Apparently that's true for some games as I'm seeing here in this thread. Not in my experience, but YMMV. The groups I've played with use all that stuff as RP touchpoints for their characters to help them inform character actions and reactions to RP/IC situations, especially if they can't...

D&D 5E (2014) Can Dispel Magic target Greater Invisibility if you know the square?

OP says the party knows where the creature is, so they're not hidden. I don't think you could target a hidden invisible creature's invisibility, but one that isn't hidden should be fair game. That's kind of the point of spells like Dispel Magic in combat since it can't do the counterspell...

    D&D 3.x D&D 3E Design: The Unbalanced Cleric

Both of these represent our differences of experience. Backgrounds get used all the time in games I play in with or without inspiration, and multiclassing happens all the time too. I can see where you're at if those things don't make an impact in your games though!

D&D 5E (2014) Cost of manning a ship (Ghosts of Saltmarsh, DMG)

I would say that most sailors are unskilled hirelings. Commissioned officers, Warrant officers, Interior Warrant/Petty officers are probably all skilled laborers though. It depends on the ship, crew #'s, etc. Here's one source to check out on that kind of stuff: Ranks & Duties For a more...

Tales from the Yawning Portal vs. Ghosts of Saltmarsh, Part TWO! Vote for your favorite adventures

Hmm, maybe I should re-phrase. My party was so focused on getting out because of the deadly fog that they didn't acquire many of the items that were available in the module. So not really much loot.

    D&D 3.x D&D 3E Design: The Unbalanced Cleric

Thanks @Jonathan Tweet for the fun 3E design insight. I have honestly loved playing clerics in every edition I've played (though in 2e it was always a specialty priest just to avoid the generic flavor). They were definitely powerful, and only got more so as additional supplements came out, but...

    D&D 5E (2014) Senident Magic item[staff] casting spell

I would totally allow that as a DM because it's freaking cool to think of a spectral hand carrying a staff and floating around places like a dungeon by itself.... Plus mage hand is great to move the staff around. The hand will never be more than 30' from the caster since the caster is the...

D&D 5E (2014) Can Dispel Magic target Greater Invisibility if you know the square?

I agree with @Prakriti here Dispel doesn't say "creature, object, or effect within range that you can see", just choose one in range. I'll also say that Mike Mearls' track record as an arbiter of the rules is... not great. He and Crawford were often at odds when Mearls still had a presence on...

    D&D 5E (2014) [POLL] Best non-combat cantrips

Guidance does see an inordinate amount of use. it's just such a great boon to people in Bounded Accuracy. It is the best mechanical cantrip you can use.

    D&D 5E (2014) [POLL] Best non-combat cantrips

Fully agree, though it's a balancing act. Part of what makes a Sorcerer special is that they get 4 cantrips to start. If you give Wizards 3+Prestidigitation, it takes some of the oomf out of the Sorcerer at level 1. Especially since Wizards Vancian casting in 5e is basically Sorcerer casting.

    D&D 5E (2014) [POLL] Best non-combat cantrips

I use that combination too, usually trying to look like someone that I want to get punked IC. Great fun and works well. My favorites are Minor Illusion and Guidance. But aside from those, message is greatly useful to my table. Mage Hand is the only way to open doors that might be trapped, and...

Tales from the Yawning Portal vs. Ghosts of Saltmarsh, Part TWO! Vote for your favorite adventures

There is little loot in Hidden Shrine. It's great fun, my table had a great time trying to handle the fact that you couldn't rest, etc.

D&D 5E (2014) Tales from the Yawning Portal vs. Ghosts of Saltmarsh

I like the maritime stuff and sandbox but still connected nature of GoS. TftYP adventures are classic, but they are in no way linked. At all. I've run my table through most of them but had to build my own story around them to get them tied together.

Critical Role Wildemount: Most Pre-orders Since D&D Core Rulebooks

No. Read my posts more carefully. I am aware Wildemount didn't do that. Only officially released Settings have material for 5e on DMs Guild. So Ravenloft, Eberron, Forgotten Realms. Maybe? Why do book/material releases need to be tied to where CR is adventuring?
