D&D 5E (2014) Would You Allow This Spell?

No. It's a reaction that deals a ton of damage and is triggered by your own combat damage. Hellish rebuke is a defensive version of this and at 3rd level deals 4d10 damage. DMG guide on spell creation states a single target spell should be 5d10 damage if that's all it does. When combined...

    D&D 5E (2014) What Level was your 1st Character Death in 5e?

I... err... haven't died as a PC in 5e yet and I'm 6 years in. I've killed plenty of characters as a DM though :)

D&D 5E (2014) Can you twin booming blade

I posit that if you had a chance to sit down with Mr. Crawford and discuss this spell he would give a very well reason and thoughtful discussion. But he's a busy person. The fact that he responds to twitter questions at all is a bonus to people, not a requirement that we should deride him for...

    D&D General Background Vs. Backstory

That's up to the DM and the player whether they fit or not. A backstory doesn't need to be a single draft. This should be the player's job with feedback from the DM, just like writing any story. Write, edit/draft, write, edit/draft, etc. No railroad involved. I guess it can be if the DM...

    D&D 5E (2014) Concentration spells in 5e

The concentration mechanic is one of the biggest balancing factors for magic in 5e. Any time you mess with that it gets slippery. In this situation, even if you were able to do that, wouldn't the Wall of Force block line of effect for the Suggestion spell? I don't think this is a mechanic...

    D&D 5E (2014) Character build help/discussion: Have I made a bard?

Kind of? Are you proficient in an instrument or performance? ;) Seriously though, you've certainly built something that fills the role/void of the bard, yes. if you're going v.Human yes those are great feats for this kind of a role. If you do go bard, then Magic Initiate (Druid) or...

Is Forgotten Realms the Default Campaign Setting for 5e?

and gnome paladins... don't forget them. I mean... there are quite a few options in the books outside of PHB that assume the Realms or at least previous Realms Lore/publishings: Uthgardt tribes (background & lore) Bladesinger (wizard school) Battleragers (barbarian path) Waterdhavian Noble...

D&D 5E (2014) Concentration mechanic can ruin plots in adventures

The School of Enchantment level 10 ability lets you essentially get a twin effect on your charm spells that target only one creature as well. Though there are other great ideas already up the thread that are probably better than that. You could flavor the NPC as a master enchanter who has...

    D&D 5E (2014) Simple Magic Item Comparison

It's a legacy issue from previous editions that is retained in the fluff but not the mechanics. In 3.5 the Bag of Holding (if it held more than a backpack) required a full-round action to retrieve a specific action. Whereas the Haversack required only a move action. The 5e fluff retains...

D&D General Acting and DMing -- is acting an impediment to fun?

I love DM's who make their NPC's more memorable by embodying them as much as possible.

    D&D 5E (2014) This op?

Is this for 4e? It seems like it from the words "bloodied" and "21st level" but I want to be sure...

The D&D Edition Complexity Thread- How do you order Edition Complexity?

This is facinating... For me: Least Complex <---5e--Basic/Moldvay--3.x--4e--2e--1e---> Most Complex

D&D 5E (2014) Shooting into a melee. Disadvantage or not?

Mine in the past been if you miss your opponent, but your roll was high enough to hit your friend... well guess what? You did! Great shot! :)

D&D 5E (2014) Shooting into a melee. Disadvantage or not?

I'm with @Oofta - usually, it's enough to apply half-cover to the enemy depending on the situation. That statistically is like "half-disadvantage" anyway. It is fun to hit your ally though. I do miss that rule from 3.5 days :P

D&D 5E (2014) Can you twin booming blade

Whelp, there's a good wholesale condemnation of DM's apparently not as smart as you!

D&D 5E (2014) Can you twin booming blade

How could you use it with multiple attacks? Do you mean as part of the Extra Attack? Yeah, I suppose, but it does use your reaction so there are not zero costs. I didn't change the "M" component in my potential update to the custom update. So it still requires a melee weapon as the Material...

WotC Wizards of the Coast Announces Sci-Fi Video Game with ex-BioWare Developers

I think the answer to that would be you can never have enough wholly-owned IP in today's entertainment marketplaces. I'm not sure forming their own studio is the way to go per se, but with the heavy hitters they're hiring it might make a ton of sense because it will give them full control of...

D&D 5E (2014) Can you twin booming blade

If you're going to re-write the spell in that way I'd model it on shield. So: Casting time: 1 reaction* ... * - which you take when you hit with a melee weapon attack That simplifies it so it's not something fully custom.

D&D as humanocetric ... or not?

I checked the option of being the bigger man because I can laugh at the big men who cry. I say that because when it comes to my games and races available to players for characters it depends on the world in which I'm running the game. Sometimes I allow free-range race options, sometimes I...
