Save or Die: Yea or Nay?

This does bring to mind George Martin's tale and Mazatlan's Book of the Fallen. However, I would certainly grant that there are relatively few "heroes" in those books. Edit: Holy Cats! I didn't realize the length of this thread, or how out of date my reply was at the time. Slowly backing away...

Einstein is a 5th Level Expert character

An interesting article, I agree with it mostly. I think that you would match your goal with three considerations; First, have the gain of skill points to be halved. First level characters should be made as per the RAW. The skill system has certain assumptions built in as to what 1st level...

    Aeon (updated 10/9/14)

Thank you. :) It occurs to me that Nahael is "thrice-fallen". Although I think that is applied to the cthonics, she has rebelled against her paradigm three times: against Oronthion, the Adversary and the Abyss. Now, she's with the Green and seemingly content. Is Sonellion so content? I think not.

    Aeon (updated 10/9/14)

I imagine that it will depend greatly on what Tramst and Eadric say to the laity. If I remember correctly, Tramst is the Sela, the Voice of God, and Eadric is ... Something, the Breath of God. While Eadric has been fairly hesitant on preaching any dogma, its been documented that people have...

    Aeon (updated 10/9/14)

I agree. It is interesting to contrast Nahael and the Adversary. It can be difficult to determine which one had a greater ability to choose their fate. That they choose similarly and that Nahael guided the Adversary towards the Green option is interesting. Eadric has changed, as has Ortwine...

    Aeon (updated 10/9/14)

Okay, let me see if I have this right... There are three significant areas; Shuth (South), Wyre (East), Nizkur (West). Fumaril is closer to Shuth than the others. The Chesnite Immortals are from Shuth. Our heroes are from Wyre. Nahael is residing in Nizkur. As Nahael has been released by a...

Essentials: Magic Item Rarity Explained, it's actually good!

That's the upshot for me as well. Between this and paring down the races and classes, I've almost got my next campaign all set.

Essentials: Magic Item Rarity Explained, it's actually good!

I love the artifact rules, but extrapolating what the "rules" are from existing artifacts and coming up with the stages of attunement can be a pain.

Essentials: Magic Item Rarity Explained, it's actually good!

It is consistant with the understanding that: a) The PCs are adventurers, not merchants. b) How the merchants do business isn't really relevant to gameplay. c) What the PCs can buy and sell are two different things. Looking at magic item transactions from the PC PoV as I understand it...

    Goths, Celts and Vikings

Still working it out, myself. These were the answers I was expecting, unfortunately. From what I remembered, those terms were rather muddy and a bit self-referential. In the past I've posted some things about my next setting. I'm taking the Cenozoic geologic record and attributing various...

    Goths, Celts and Vikings

So, if I was going to highlight the major differences between these cultures, what would they be? The goal is to make stylistic differences between groups of humans; different races, if you will.

    Returned Abeir "Continent"

That can't be right. It's supposed to be as big as Faerun, although not as big as the whole F-Z-K continent. And, what's that other continent to the east?

The curse placed on Irving Pulling?

It seems an appropriate word for the actions, regardless of her gender. Anyway, the take home point seems to be that only one person definitively mentioned a curse, the specifics were never recorded and the people who could comment are either ignorant of it or deceased.

Very nice. I look forward to the polished manuscript.

Thank you! However Mr. Teapot, if there is a link in your post I'm not seeing it.

    Domain List

Is there an online list of the domains from Divine Power anywhere? Bonus points if the standard deities are also listed with theirs. There isn't a list on the WotC site and it seems to be down right at the moment, anyway.

    Thoughts On Level Limits?

Level limits help define what is commonly discovered in the world. As a whole, PCs are the exception, usually a cut above common folk. Even though they may start as humble peasants, it is the PCs who have the courage, the opportunity, the access or the luck to be in the position to be able to...

    Interesting Extraplanar Cities?

My cosmology bears a resemblance to the 4e scheme which is coincidental. It’s been kicking around in my mind for the past decade and I’m finally getting to writing stuff down. For reference, I have almost all of the Planescape materials. (Missing the Astral and Inner planes books still, darn...

    Interesting Extraplanar Cities?

What would be 5-7 interesting extraplanar cities to adventure in or around? I'm trying to come up with a number of appropriate mythic locales when the party is either appropriately bored with the knights, robber barons and EHP. You have the City of Brass. That's not only iconic to D&D but...

Campaign Standards: Slavery yea or nay?

For the most part, slavery is the work of villians and evil. The closest I've come in a campaign where it was established that criminals and POWs were forced into hard or dangerous labor. Even then it was only for the duration of their punishment or captivity. My players, with one exception...
