D&D 5E (2014) How Can D&D Next Win You Over?

Ok iterative attacks were so lame they made you not want to play a Fighter. So now i look at my 11th level 4E Fighter and hmm he can attack 2 different enemies once an encounter with Hack and Hew oh my gosh thats so much better than iterative attacks... Lets see I can attack one enemy twice with...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mass Combat in 5E

I don't think I could say it better than this. Well done!

Let's make a list of magic items!

I want magic items with: 1. Specific Names - like Wave, Black Razor or Axe of the Dawrvish Lords 2. History - famous or infamous previous owners and uses, how/why it was created 3. Layered - like an onion discovering more powers and abilities the longer you posses and use them 4. Other Pillars -...

AD&D, looking backwards, and personal experiences

I definetly enjoyed DMing AD&D more than any other edition and ran my best and longest lasting campaigns using those rules. We used most of the rules including weapon speed which I felt did a decent job of adding incentive to using smaller faster weapons. We did skip weapons vs armor though. The...

D&D 5E (2014) And Lo, the Fighter Did Get a Shtick of his Own... COMBAT SUPERIORITY!

I have no issue with action point/dice mechanics but making it Fighter only just seems odd. I'm also not convinced it needs to be a default assumption and not an optional module.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you want D&D Next to succeed?

So all the people who didn't like 4E were irrational? Only irrational people didn't like 4E? If a lot of people who were not irrational didn't like 4E then i'd say your issue is with 4E's designers. I just really don't see how edition warriors can kill a game. Your really not making any sense.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you want D&D Next to succeed?

So you are saying a handful of irrational people on the internet killed what was otherwise a successful game? Really? Are you one of those people who don't believe we landed on the moon either, that it was just a conspiracy? lol

D&D 5E (2014) Do you want D&D Next to succeed?

Yes I hope it becomes the best selling edition ever and guarantees a future edition 10+ years down the road from its release. So far I haven't seen anything that would prevent me from at least getting the core books and kicking the tires though I suspect my group is largely enamored of 4E. I...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you want D&D Next to succeed?

What on earth would make you say such a thing. Who "worked hard to make 4E fail"? How could anyone make 4E fail beyond the people who designed and marketed it? Are you blaming them?

D&D 5E (2014) How Can D&D Next Win You Over?

That about sums it up for me. I don't want many of the default playstyle assumption of 4E (or even 3E for that matter) forced onto my game. I want to be able to pick and choose some of those elements when they suit the story I'm trying to tell or the campaign I want to run. So far I think things...

D&D 5E (2014) Should there always be a chance of failure in D&D Next?

I voted other but my answer really depends upon if all rolls are important/meaningful. If a roll is important/meaningful then yes there should a chance of failure (even fail on a 1 is ok). If there are rolls that are not important or meaningful then I think a chance of failure is pointless and...

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

This is the really sad part they have made thier goal so much harder than it needed to be time and time again. The split and the rancor on both sides of the edition war really reminds of the democrat vs. republican split where both sides are so uncompromising and inflexible we ended up with what...

I hope the new "Dungeon Master Guide" talks extensively about playstyles.

I could see the DMG outline what some of the most common playstyles are and then suggesting certain sets of modules to best facilitate each. If you like grim and gritty try adding modules C, G, and X if you want superhero PCs try modules A, F, J, and Z etc.

    Five-Minute Workday Article

Well to hear some of its defenders talk 4E already cured the 5MWD (along with cancer if some are to be believed) so a module which supports 4E style play should be all you need :)

    Five-Minute Workday Article

I believe the devs have stated that they want to support the playstyle of all editions via module. I have not seen all the modules therefore I cannot rule out support for the 4E playstyle. Apparently at least one poster has seen all the modules since he has said in no uncertain terms that there...

What to do about the 15-minute work day?

So the designers have said that DDN is only balanced in the context of a dungeon delve? Wow I really need to read those articles more carefully.

    Five-Minute Workday Article

Oh so you have seen all the modules already and know that a 4E style game won't be possible. Well thanks for clearing that up for the rest of us without your insider knowledge.

So DDN has stated that 4 encounter per day is the standard?

Here, Let Me Fix "Powers Per Day" For You

Ok so you propose a playstyle where PCs stop and rest for the day after every fight and want that one fight to be balanced on an encounter level. Interesting playstyle for sure it sounds very much like a corner case and not the norm but I will grant that given that very specific set of...
