    Videogame Influences!

Quite honestly it feels to me like some are being deliberately obtuse on this subject for reasons known only to them. There are aspects of the game that seem very videogamey to me as well. I don't expect you to feel the same way, since feelings are personal are highly subjective. To suggest...

What is your thoughts on multiclassing?

This sounds better to me in comparsion, I will be interested to hear how your playtesting goes.

    Why do 4e combats grind?

I'm not sure why the focus here seems to be on the number of rounds. IME the grind I experienced was directly related to the passage of real time not rounds.

    How Prestigious?

Sorry for getting off topic here but Xtheth I noticed your avatar says level 30 DM. If you are indeed DMing level 30 PCs is there any chance you might be willing to start a thread to tell us how thats going? I know I am certainly interested to hear what the endgame gameplay is like.

    3E, 4E and combat

This has been my experience as well, a large group of minions plus a few PCs with aoe spells does make for a trivial encounter.

What is the Swordmage role? who is martial controller?

I've been playing one and enjoying it. I would call the Swordmage a defender with a healthy dash of controller.

Where Has All the Magic Gone?

I don't think anyone is disputing the notion that you could make up or recreate old school magic items for 4E but rather lamenting the need to do so. Many of the changes to magic items that I don't like happened in 3E so this isn't really about knocking 4E from my perspective.

4E combat grind but not boring

In hindsight I would have to say yes that is a possibility since we all got emails that we have the option of waking up as prisoners or trying out new characters. I'm not convinced we could have escaped once the fight started. But I believe without the terrible PC rolls (or that blasted orc...

Where Has All the Magic Gone?

The 3E nerfing of Gaultlets of Ogre Power is an excellent example of ways that magic items were changed that I didn't care for. The change in wands meantion earlier in the thread was another one. I don't believe this is in any way related to nostalgia.

4E combat grind but not boring

Yes because clearly statements such as I have fun playing the game and I like 4E paladin and that the Swordmages is my favorite 4E class of those which I have played for example are clearly meant as an attack on 4E, a game which I play weekly because I hate it so much /boggle It seems like...

4E combat grind but not boring

Interesting but to be quite honest I have no idea how many rounds the battle took, my issue was more with the 2+ hours in real time and my fear (not based on any high level 4E play experience) that this could get worse at higher levels. But again in my experience there is no way this was a 2+...

4E combat grind but not boring

Yes well once upon a time I was a community supporter prior to a pro 4E shift in moderation which quite frankly turned me off of coming here for a while and makes it impossible for me to continue that support. No longer being a community supporter I no longer control the content you refer to...

4E combat grind but not boring

I did not say 4E combat is boring in fact I specifically stated more than once that it was fun, if you are going to try and cast my posts in a negative light at least try to be accurate. I did say that in my opinion that this particular fight was my first experience with what others had...

4E combat grind but not boring

I have to disagree about being overmatched by the ogre. Although it certainly wasn't missing it wasn't really doing all that much damage due to the aegis of shielding docking 8 points off each hit. We had it bloodied twice and could have killed it if not for the presence of the cleric who healed...

4E combat grind but not boring

At the start of the battle the warlord and rogue were squared off against the ogre this may or may not have been related to who was on watch when the encounter took place. The swordmage marked the ogre to reduce his damage output and quickly moved to try and eliminate the minions who as I recall...

4E combat grind but not boring

I believe it was an important encounter we thought we had avoided earlier in the evening, but it eventually caught up to us. I just don't ever remember low level combats taking 2+ hours in previous editions especially level 2. If this is an exception then fine but I see lots of threads and...

4E combat grind but not boring

Well in our 4E game last night we got a first hand dose of the grind that is 4E combat. This is not to say that the battle was boring, it was certainly not, but it certainly felt like it took forever. The party: 2nd level warlord, wizard, warlock, swordmage, and rogue. Plus two NPC clerics...
