    D&D 5E (2014) Rangers in 5e

I just don't get the connection to duel weilding and wilderness combat/survival/exploration.

    D&D 4E [Continuation 4e] - a manifesto

I wonder if something like 3 hit minions might bear some fruit. I've seen normal minions suggested as a fix but i've never found them to be particular satisfying beyond the opportunity they present to the controller to kill lots of stuff at once. If minions had more staying power they might...

Legends & Lore 09/03 - RPG design philosophy

So your position is that he has been disparaging 4E?

    Why have dissociated mechanics returned?

I don't get why people regard the acceptance of hit points as a green light to pile on more "abstractions" as 3E did to some extent and 4E did to the point of absurdity. Just because I can overlook faster than light travel in my sci fi isn't a green light to pile on more wonkiness keep your...

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

I don't DM 4E I'm just a player (although 4E does boss fights so well in some regards it makes me wish otherwise). I have no idea when the MM3 came out or to what extent its been used in the games i've played in. In a typical battle i'm using one or two attack encounter powers maybe a daily then...

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

So by your standard I need to spend my time linking and quoting the multitude of threads and thousands of post where people have observed that 4E combat drags out in which even 4E fans and w4rriors claim that the fix is to spontaneously kill off the monsters/enemies regardless of remaining...

Legends & Lore 09/03 - RPG design philosophy

"The game is about the adventures of fighters, rogues, wizards, and clerics, not a wizard and his or her lackeys." It's always great to see the man in charge repeating/promoting one of the core myths of the edition war...not. SIGH...

    D&D 4E What 5E needs to learn from 4E

I see an opportunity to run a climactic boss fight in a way that none of the other editions easily or clearly supported. In 1E there was a campaign arc that I ultimatly intened the PCs to face off vs. an Archdevil and a fight like that would have been great. Same thing for a 3E campaign that...

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

Essentials? Seriously LOL. So your solution is to cut your total options down to what 6 classes and 9 builds? Oh my how exciting... Honestly it lacks variety of classes and little or no build options or customization.

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

Yes I must be making this stuff up it's not as if I play 4E every week, oh hey wait a minute...

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

The beauty of this statement lies in the fact that most 4E fights end up with the defender having no choice but to spam an at will round after round partially because they drag on so long and partially because so many encounter powers are very situational. So in the end the 4E Fighter ends up in...

    Improving my pushy fighter

Thanks for the advice Ferghis, We are playing an Eberron game so Mark of the Sentinal ties directly into my characters history/background and isn't the sort of thing i can just swap out at this point. Might be interesting if i end up needing a replacement character at some point though. Great...

    Improving my pushy fighter

A few regular posters had offered to review and offer improvements for my Spear (trident) and Shield Fighter. His favored attack is Tide of Iron which through feat support allows him to push opponents 15' and knock them prone. It was suggested I look at other powers which might build off this...

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

CS dice can be applied every round and can be simplified to adding extra damage (not dissociative imho) and nothing more. Can we change 4E melee encounter powers to work every round? There lies two very big differences...if you can't see the diff I don't think there is much more I can do to help...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rangers in 5e

What concerns me is we've already been told fighters will be the best at fighting and that the best archer in the realm would be a fighter. Now we find that with the right specialty and background we can make the fighter "rangery". This leads to the question of who will actually make a ranger...

    D&D 5E (2014) Ardents in 5e

My guess would be they trotted out those two to appease the anti vancian crowd with potential alternate magic systems. Looking forward to a well done throwback to the 1E monk personally!

    D&D 5E (2014) Rangers in 5e

Glad someone said it, the little Drizzt clones are the first thing that comes to mind about a ranger that needs to "die in a fire" to use the common phrase.

    D&D 5E (2014) Ardents in 5e

I really liked this as a power model a good list of at wills that can be upgraded on a limited basis. I think i would have worked as framework for melee powers too with some tweaking.
