D&D General D&D Editions: Anybody Else Feel Like They Don't Fit In?

Oh absolutely... frankly, I don't enjoy playing as much ever since I went forever-DM :'D I much prefer GMing, but it has greatly reduced my ttrpg enjoyability as a player.

D&D General D&D Editions: Anybody Else Feel Like They Don't Fit In?

I don't know how true this is of everyone.. but when I first started playing, and for a long time afterward, I was kind of person that was heavily invested in my character, very unhappy if they died. Once I witched from primarily player to primarily GM though, I learned to, as I put it, "hold on...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

Fireball specifically goes around corners- I always took this to mean that it'd have an ignoring or reducing effect on cover.

D&D General Do you play in person or online?

My former in-person group is all online now. They like playing from the convenience of their homes on weeknights. Makes me sad. I couldn't do online as a player, it's not stimulating enough for me to keep paying attention.. might be better if we all used webcams, but being off-camera is part of...

    D&D General Hands slot economy

Too much munchkinism? Yes, but I'm particularly grumpy about this subject. It sounds like a recipe for someone wanting the benefits, and then they'll try to negate or minimize the negatives as often and as much as possible. How long? 2 hours, requiring assistance. Basically, longer than a short...

    D&D General Hands slot economy

Someone above saying a lot of these problems stem from players wanting to have their cake and eat it too is pretty spot-on (in my experience). It creates such a headache due to player expectations (I hesitate to use the word entitlement, but sometimes it feels like the system makes them...

D&D General [Let's Read] Playable Monster Sourcebooks

I'll be curious to see what options there are in 5e for Monsters-as-Class. I looked into it a few months ago, but I'm darned if I can recall what I found :') Also, how folk'll make Play an Illithid if not As-Class. After BG3 I'd be amazed if there weren't a bunch of DMsGuild PDFs in that vein.

Project Sigil 90% Of D&D’s Project Sigil Team Laid Off

If you're not being sarcastic (can't tell, the plight of text chat!)- you've been playing for decades... How did you make characters before DDB existed?

Project Sigil 90% Of D&D’s Project Sigil Team Laid Off

BTW I feel the need to point out that this doesn't work for everyone; a couple players (out of dozens) really had trouble grokking the rules whether it was digitally or on paper... I'm a decent teacher, but that's where the actual professionals come in :'D Wanted to make it clear that moving...

Project Sigil 90% Of D&D’s Project Sigil Team Laid Off

Yes, DDB is a crutch to new players that prevents many of them from having to learn the game/their characters. This is just my experience obviously, but when I forced players off of DDB and went through character creation and transfers to paper, they learned their characters and game knowledge...

Wizards of the Coast Is Sunsetting Sigil's Active Development

Not sure ofc cuz I'm just guessing based on context, it's up to them if they want to clarify, but it's probably the hope that the game doesn't take an primarily digital direction bent for design. Designing with digital in mind primarily over tabletop, etc.

Do you buy new versions of TTRPG games when you haven't had time to play the older version sitting on your shelf?

I meant try getting something going locally; there are still sites like Meetup.com for finding local folk!

Do you buy new versions of TTRPG games when you haven't had time to play the older version sitting on your shelf?

I'd say "try online games," but you've probably considered that! Locals not an option anymore? Depending on how much energy you have, you can always try to get something going if you can't find anything. I know, easier said than done :)

Wizards of the Coast Is Sunsetting Sigil's Active Development

Yup! And even if you're like me and blow thousands of dollars on it, WotC isn't seeing a lot of that money- all the random folk making TTRPG content are. I buy lots of stuff for DnD that isn't 5e-specific. To be fair though, thousands of those thousands of dollars have been on old WotC or...

Oh yeah, like I said it was a pretty small incentive. I gave an example of a strong one. But to folks saying that it would've persuaded NO ONE to buy- I don't think they understand the mindset. Sometimes a little nudge is all you need.

For those saying no one would've pre-ordered because of the gold dragon mini, I'd like to point you to video game preorder bonuses and FOMO. Was the mini huge thing (actually, was it gargantuan or colossal 🥁)? No. Would it have helped nudge some folk along? Yes. It was a single mini, so...
