D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

I'm not clear on what you mean by 8 points instead of 12 points. Are you referring to the average number needed to hit, or attribute bonuses, or? Cuz yeah, it'd be nice if there was less inflation :)

Has Wizards of the Coast Given Up on Sigil?

Yeah it makes me wonder if Maps was part of why Sigil was canned.

Has Wizards of the Coast Given Up on Sigil?

I think they're just pulling from the Rascal article, which has the full text of an internal statement:

Do you buy new versions of TTRPG games when you haven't had time to play the older version sitting on your shelf?

... OK does it count if I only had the basic Torchbearer book and never ran it, but then shelled out for the super nice Torchbearer 2e release? ... Yeah. Same goes for Into the Odd.

Has Wizards of the Coast Given Up on Sigil?

Except this is like quietly releasing an MMO without most of the content, and before you do any beta testing. It's hardly a classic MMO "launch," ya know?

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

Wow Marvel still makes use of Conan, eh? 2024, 2025. Nice covers!

D&D General Do you track ammunition?

I agree, but "fun" isn't the end-all be-all for everyone. Some people find it more fulfilling to have to ration resources; that can be an important part of the game, depending on the edition/system. I guess that's more of a survival-horror aspect, though; the ranged attacks can be very...

D&D General Do you track ammunition?

Ha yeah, cantrips really screw the curve. That's a good point. However, I am also of the mind that utility cantrips should be limited to a certain number per rest. Antitoxin, acid, alch fire etc. are standard equipment, not magic items, but yeah no worries.

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Resistance: What was Old is New

OK so of note, and I thought I'd bring it up here cuz it's sort of on-topic... Rakshasa in 5e24 just automatically pass spell saves, and all spell attack rolls miss them :'D

D&D General Do you track ammunition?

This is where I've largely fallen as well- but I do wonder about the implications, lines, slippery slopes and such. Adventuring gear like rope. "Your character would've thought to have brought it, so don't worry about it." What about antitoxin? "You knew you were going into a spider den, so...

D&D General Do you track ammunition?

Magic/limited ammo, yes. But not mundane ammo that could be easily acquired/crafted, which is most cases. I did track ammo in 2e and 3e as a player... not sure what changed. Must be shifting priorities.

D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

One thing that's been considered for a long time has been upping damage and lowering HP on monsters. I never had the drive to try it til I saw that mike mearls said he did it in his home games. I think it's a worthwhile change; about 30% more damage, and 30% less health. The higher damage ups...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

Yeah, you're either designing for a game that people are playing at a table, with their heads and paper sheets, or you're designing for a game where most of the hard work is being handled by computers over a server etc. I guess that's more heavily looking at it like a video game-lite?

D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

I'm on-board with @mearls saying Bonus Actions were a mistake/bad patch, and result in slowdown. But does slower = tedious? Well if you're not enjoying the actual mechanics and thematics of the combat, then it's probably something else.

    D&D 5E (2014) Which 5e Should I Propose to My Group? [Updated]

Just FYI, this is the feature: I definitely understand where you're coming from though, but 5e sits in an awkward middleground (in my mind) with crunch: the characters get a lot of features, so players are more likely to rely on what's on their sheet (I guess that might apply to all modern...

    D&D 5E (2014) Which 5e Should I Propose to My Group? [Updated]

My players usually don't try to be overly social unless they're playing a character with decent charisma and/or the skills for it, because they'll inevitably push for something that'll require persuasion and It would've been more "mechanically advantageous" if they had just had the face...

    D&D 5E (2024) Sigil Review Thread (+)

At a table, the player can't click "fireball fireball fireball fireball" over and over again. I agree though, that I don't have that problem with my tables in other VTTs... so it's either a group etiquette problem, or maybe it's because the VTT is shiny and new that people want to make things...

D&D General What Does New Coke Tell Us About Designing for D&D

I feel like you're having a conversation with someone else. I don't think it's quite right to say "strawman" but I think you might be injecting your own issues into what I've written.
