If you want to go down the line of allow9ing these "advantages" to this player character, you can also remember that this is your world you are creating. Those he meets may well have similar abilities, or the more powerful demenour this character gives off the more likely he is to be the target...

I just started playing again after DMing for the past 16 years, and have a gnome fighting with 2 hand axes. Now this is by no means the best combination.... hell I just like the image of it.. :)
