Yeah, this is a good book. There's a lot of stuff you can directly import to an existing homebrew. The back section has a nice list of dealie-wackers and thingies to drop into your world to be discovered. The bulk of it is a nice round introduction to earth science for the aspiring world...

Instead of "evil" you could make them "highly xenophobic". As for me, I tend to make my orcs into evil klingons. The players seem to like it.

We don't role play that much. But that's because our games are once a month or less. We can't remember what happend during the last game to effectively role play. So D&D has become a kind of wargame-with-talking for us.

I disagree. The thing about the "stealth" skills is that most DMs and campaigns will call for those skills the most often. Ask for a more diverse group of skill checks and you'll see the PCs putting points into more diverse skills. And if the "stealth" skills are the only ones you end up using...

Honestly? Blackgaurd is a terrific fighter-rogue combination PrC. Other than that? See if you can't get him a good varient ranger class. It sounds like what he wants to play is a DEX-based fighter with decent skill points.

I can not speak to the new edition. The older one was very good. A skill based system is a little harder to DM because you can't trust third-party modules to have decent challenges for your gaming group. On the other hand the characters are very customizeable. http://www.glorantha.com/ ...
