D&D 4E 4E: What we think we know

I have no information regarding this whatsoever. However my bet is they'll allow you to have more games for a fee. The number is low enough so guys like me are tempted. Three games is ideal in my case. I suspect a lot of other dads feel the same way. Three games a month with one "week off"...

    The big announcement: 4dventure

I gave into the notion of a 4th edition when I saw that Cook was getting out of RPGs.

    A new setting contest?

No! They rejected my genius. It is their loss. From that point forward whenever I have gotten an exciting, original idea (an average of 7.3 times per day) I perform brain surgery on myself with a mirror, sledgehammer, and a red hot graphite pencil to burn away the neuron that produced that...

D&D 4E 4E: What we think we know

Not really. The fan stuff kinda-sorta sucks, but it keeps people from reprinting 100% of the released material on their geocities site. And it only sucks for the publishers if WotC is real tight with the license. So far they've been pretty cool with their IP (mind flayers, beholders, etc)...

    The big announcement: 4dventure

And let's have a little perspective. If this is really "bad" then things are pretty good, right?

    PC Races with Charisma Bonuses

Yep. No WIS bonus, a CON penalty, and a preferred class of cleric. This is why drow always lose.

Talk to me about item crafting

Incidentally der_kluge lives and breathes for this kind of thing. He's run the math on item creation and muses on it often.

Talk to me about item crafting

I'm not a huge fan of it. You're paying exp for an item. In a core rules setting you can pretty much commission what you need. So why make something? Of course, if you're not in a core rules setting and if items are more limited, the feat allows you to make stuff the DM has no real plans on...

    [D&D history/development] I wonder why...

The difference being that in D&D you only have to make the food item once. And that's staying well within the thread's restriction on game lore rather than game mechanics. Sure we can talk about a dozen rationalizations for all of this. But given the lore for most settings, we're generally...

    D&D Brand Manager of Fluff

Well, I'm not really into Ravenloft and I disliked the direction Dark Sun took literally a few months after it was published. Planescape. Would I buy just one book? Given my purchasing habits, probably. But I'd have to have that first book. What it would take to get me to buy future...

    [D&D history/development] I wonder why...

We don't have firearms because the universe/gods don't let us or the materials aren't there. OK. But .... We have dwarves who can make an adamantite sword cut through volcanoes but they can't muster up the metallurgy to make a decent steam engine railroad. We can build roads, but not dig a...

    D&D Brand Manager of Fluff

I'm trying to think of this in a "what might I buy" sense and not a "what I think would be cool". My gaming budget this year has been very, very limited. I've spent most of it on donation drives, magazines, and PDFs. So I think my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt because I don't...

    Interesting class game mechanic...

I don't have that book either! Man, I'll be a little embarrassed if that's the case.

    Interesting class game mechanic...

I know there's some distaste for World of Warcraft amongst some folks in these forums, but the game design challenges MMORPG designers go through can be similar (and sometimes identical) to the ones PnP RPG designers go through. It is with that in mind that I came across an interesting...
