"Tabletop D&D Has Lost Its Way" Says Pathfinder Video Game Exec

That's kinda like telling people that like classic movies that you just watched Plan 9 from Outer Space and don't get it.

"Tabletop D&D Has Lost Its Way" Says Pathfinder Video Game Exec

I don't think the studio went from just making one or two games at a time (back in the Poker Night, BttF, Jurassic Park days) to having 4 consistent IPs going without some growth. Plus, the genre is expanding to other studios, thanks to TTG's success. Dontnod's Life is Strange is really well...

"Tabletop D&D Has Lost Its Way" Says Pathfinder Video Game Exec

Obsidian, meh. WotC should license to Telltale Games to make an awesome story-driven adventure game, that would be fantastic. They got a license to make Tales from the Borderlands, and Borderlands IP is Gearbox, Feral, and 2k. Or Game of Thrones, a game based on a show based on a book? These...

What's the most anticipated RPG of 2015?

Hmmm. Force and Destiny, I guess. I'm in an Edge of the Empire game, so I'm interested in that. I'm actually more interested in trying some older games I missed out on but learned more about, thanks mostly to reading Designers and Dragons.

Designers and Dragons Bundle of Holding, Only 7 hours left.

I was part of the KS, so I didn't get the bundle, but I've read the first three books (70's, 80's, 90's) and they're all really great reads. A great mix of nostalgia and interesting facts I didn't know about.

D&D DICEMASTERS (Collectible Dice Building Game)

Dicemasters is not Dragon Dice. That's like seeing the the 5e books on the shelf and saying, "Great, another F.A.T.A.L." The Marvel game is very highly thought of, it's a far superior game to even Quarriors!, the game it's based off of. This is just like Attack Wing, a D&D spin-off of another...

    D&D 5E (2014) Scariest Monster Ever

It seems to me that every time our group has had the worst time of it is when one of their number turns on them during an encounter due some sort of domination effect. This happened a few times back in our d20 days when the high hp/AC, low Will save fighter types would get charmed, which is the...

D&D 5E (2014) EXP options That we use.

I've always seen XP as the means to an end. The party is trying to accomplish something. The reward is accomplishing it. Levelling up helps in that. Mileage may vary for others in this regard, though.

D&D 5E (2014) EXP options That we use.

What reason do they give for hating it? No trust in you as the DM? I do it this way, and my players don't mind. I actually find it less arbitrary than just adding up XP for dead monsters, as the levels come when it makes the most sense.

    D&D 5E (2014) [5e +] So what are you currently doing with 5e

Thanks for the offer, though it's more likely I'll just be basing the game on the adventure, rather than do a true conversion.

    D&D 5E (2014) [5e +] So what are you currently doing with 5e

Cool, I plan on using CotSQ as a basis to finish up my Silver Marches game, though I'll be taking great liberties with it, especially as seeing the party will likely only be 7th level when they begin it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Stake to the Heart!

If I'm doing a Buffy-style game, I probably do want a way for the PCs to take out vampires trivially, just the Buffy and the Scooby gang did. You just don't want the Big Bad to be taken out like that. Conversely, if I'm doing a rare vampire encounter in a regular D&D game, it puts a damper on...

D&D 5E (2014) The woes of the elf and his longsword

This makes the most sense. If these two conditions aren't mutually exclusive, they will be in my games.

D&D 5E (2014) The woes of the elf and his longsword

I agree that one doesn't beget the other, but neither should be cause for a problem (unless the player continually just does subpar things to be a passive aggressive d-bag, which is a different problem). While the other guy in your story probably just should have said "no, thanks" in character...

D&D 5E (2014) The woes of the elf and his longsword

This seems odd to me, but I suppose it just depends on whether you see the game as a group storytelling venture, or an our team vs their team sporting event. I'm not saying one is better than the other, I know the appeal of competitive gaming, but I get my fix of that from board and video...

D&D 5E (2014) The woes of the elf and his longsword

Which is given much more gravitas than removing it one's self. Blessed by Gruumsh is the orc that loses an eye in battle (doubly-so if from the arrow of an elf!)

D&D 5E (2014) The woes of the elf and his longsword

Yep, and orcs take it a step further. Losing an eye is a great boon, thanks to Gruumsh, but it sure isn't practical.

D&D 5E (2014) Ok all, I just cannot wrap my head around how combat works. Please Help.

I hate going off-topic, but I wonder which games you find strange? I admit, I haven't watched any of S3, but scanning the list here, I don't see anything too unusual, aside perhaps for Cards Against Humanity. A lot of light games, co-ops, and fluffy fillers, as per usual. I'm really looking...

    D&D 5E (2014) Forgotten Realms version?

My opinion is that you can run any edition of FR with 5e, just ignore the crunchy rules and use the setting info. Heck, you could run an FR game using Dungeon World, GURPS, or most any other FRPG. My currently 5e game is set in Silver Marches, using the excellent SM setting book along with the...

Deluxe Dungeon Master's Screen: It Lives!

I don't use screens, but if I did, I'd much prefer function over form. The DM's side should be nothing but information, with perhaps tiny pieces of art where there isn't enough room to put more info. From the pics shown, there is a lot of wasted real estate. The art is for the player side...
