    Elemental Hero' Handbook

I'd still play it just to use that cool ice archon mini more often. :p

    Cleric changes explained (Podcast)

I appreciate dropping the sarcasm, thanks. It isn't my intention to move the goalposts around but as I'm posting around every other day I do tend to lose my train of thought a bit, so sorry about that. You did make the case fine for the PHB warlord, I probably latched onto the defy...

    Cleric changes explained (Podcast)

Your tone makes it really hard for me to want to continue this discussion with you. :erm: But, I will say that if you stack warlords up next to the strength cleric I totally agree that there's no comparison to be made. They didn't nerf the strength cleric, though; actually arguably they buffed...

    Cleric changes explained (Podcast)

You have to make that case using only the original PH powers of the warlord, though, since that's explicitly what they're working over right now. It seems to me that a great many of the powers that make the warlord effective are in MP1/2.

    Cleric changes explained (Podcast)

Hyperbole much? I had my first session with my now-level-23 laser cleric, who had several of the nerfed abilities from this pass (firestorm, all the radiant servant powers, etc). I was still plenty effective. The changes to firestorm probably hurt the most (it was pretty blatantly overpowered...

Help: Gap between AC and defenses seems too large.

Those gaps are only going to get bigger. I have an epic tier fighter with an AC of 48 (this goes up in a bunch of fairly common circumstances too) and a Will defense of 34 (at level 26). It is pretty messed up at the highest levels, I don't know how you balance a monster for something like that...

    Heroes of Virtue article

Well I guess I have my first theme-related house rule. I think adding them in to an ongoing game is fine, although I would stare balefully at my players if they picked something that didn't fit their character as it had been played so far.

Are themes retrainable? I don't think that's something I'd allow any more than I'd allow race or class to be retrained, were I designing it.

    Heroes of the Feywild Speculation

I don't know if I'm going to hold my breath for a druid build, flavor-wise they've really separated the fey stuff from the primal stuff this edition.

Can you give an example of this kind of rule?

Can a DM expose a vampire character to sunlight with combat actions?

The part that isn't defined is 'the DM can take your cloak away if he feels like it'. Well, sure, the DM can do all sorts of things if he feels like it. He *could* make the wizard's player roll a saving throw every time he takes fire damage to keep from losing his spellbook - after all, how a...

Can a DM expose a vampire character to sunlight with combat actions?

The other weaknesses are quite another matter because they interact with the combat rules in a defined way. It might be a little suspicious if radiant-firing enemies show up in every single fight though. ;)

    Cleric (Templar) is Up

I do remember a certain subset of people being worried that they would tie the products together - like we'd start seeing MtG cards with Elminster on them, and a Dominaria campaign setting, spells being sold in random packs, etc. I don't know that it was a LOT of people worried about it, but I...

Can a DM expose a vampire character to sunlight with combat actions?

I don't have it in front of me, but I'm referring to the sentence telling the player, in effect, "you can ignore the sun part of your radiant weakness by wearing a cloak or heavy clothing," which by my recollection is in the same paragraph saying what happens if you happen to wander out into the...

Can a DM expose a vampire character to sunlight with combat actions?

Listed right next to a sentence that essentially tells the player that they don't really have to worry about it. I just hope you're advertising to your players that you're going to make more of the sunlight weakness in actual combat than that section implies, before they make the choice to play...

    Mearls' "Stop, Thief!" Article

Yeah take it from those of us who were alive at the time and played both systems, Basic-Expert-etc. was an entirely separate game with its own full slate of products, a fully supported campaign world, etc.

Yeah I missed the bit about the d4. That does pretty much mean BECMI I'd guess.

    Royal Rumble: Multiclass vs. Hybrid!

I don't think they're redundant, personally - multiclassing does a good job at representing a character who just dabbles in the 2nd class, which is something that you can't really do with a hybrid. Hybrids are more about fusing two things into a single concept which I think narratively...

    Cleric (Templar) is Up

I don't know that the healing has been tremendously nerfed, I'm still going to have 4 minor action heals per encounter, three of which affect two people, still have a surge worth of temp hp for everyone at the start of encounters, etc.
