Free Will and Geas/Quest (and Lesser Geas/Quest)

PHB p208 "Instead of suffering penalites to abilities, the subject takes 3d6 points of damage each day he does not attempt to follow the geas/quest." Geas is on a per day basis, so its not worth much other than long term goals "Recover the Sword of So-And-So and bring it back to me." If the...

    active vs passive spot/listen?

Hes got it about right. You might know something is up, but unless you know exactly what it is you still don't have a much better chance of seeing it. Even when things are pointed out, you still might not see them. How many times have you or a friend heard or seen something the other person...

    coup de grace too powerful

6 seconds not enough time to kill someone?! I can do it in one second. Give me a gun or a knife and I bet if you're sleeping and don't wake up you never will (well maybe for a second as you watch your arterial blood splash around and then lose consciousness). CDG is very realistic. My beef...

    cost of buildings

The smith probably doesn't own his own smithy. He probably has a land lord (a noble) who he pays taxes and rent to. Now if he was say a former adventurer he might own his own shop, but it probably wouldn't be the norm. Most hamlets probably make thier own buildings anyway, so all you'd pay for...

    Summon Monster Question (alignment-related question)

Didn't the old Dragonlance (1e) book have a chart for that? It was a cool idea, but waaaay too much paperwork in practice. Not to mention it was easy to do something terrible once in a while because you'd "built up" alot of good. "Sure I killed the family and took thier family heirloom, but I...

    What the Hell am I?

Shouldn't he be neutral good? More Neutral than Chaotic. And isn't the X=neutral (as in CX=CN; NX=N etc)?

    Yuan-ti PCs, what ECL?

Forgot about them, they are much more playable. +3 is probably about right since they do get some really good abilities, but not nearly as many as a real Yuan-Ti. Though that might be light considering they can poison as a spell-like ability.

    Wildshape, flying and Stun

A case could be made for gliding creatures- dragons and most birds. While insects and hummingbirds would plummet to the ground, most creatures would probably continue in a straight line, possibly crashing into the ground or something else, but most likely they wouldn't drop out of the sky. If...

Average AC for 10th lvl *RTTTOEE SPOILER AHEAD*

Very true Gizzard. Lvl 10 is where things get interesting for fighter types. They have the high AC to stand a chance going toe to toe with the big boys, the hit points to survive, and the attack to dish out damage, but a single mage can easily take them out with a single spell. I've found at...

A Big Hole In The Rules?

If you play with the "Psionics are Different" variant then a Forsaker could use Psionics, though any remotely reasonable DM would step in and say no- its not the Forsaker can tell the difference, heck alot of mages can't. Ultimately its the DMs call, but in the spirit of the rules it should be...

So he did give a response on this then?

    Antimagic shell (I know, I know ...)

Just because something blocks a line of effect doesn't mean it has to be a solid object. You're using false logic. A->B does not mean B->A. You're assuming: All solid objects block line of effect therefore if something blocks a line of effect it is a solid object. To use another line of...

    Initiative drop!

What spell is it that does that? Its always bugged me since it means nothing, and isn't likely to come up unless you happened to cast it during a surprise round.

Please rate the Dirty Fighting feat

I like the idea, though disarm might be a little out of character in some ways, but it could still work. Makes more sense that it should help one in say, a barroom brawl where you're using tables and the like vs a dungeon corridor where everyone is probably fighting "dirty" by trying to kill the...

    Readying attack against spellcasters

Exactly, if you had a full round next to a spell caster you mean to tell me you'd wait till he tried to cast a spell and not smack him right then? It happens occasionally, but mostly its for archers and fighters who want to counter the infamous 5' step-cast that mages use. You're not really...

    Yuan-ti PCs, what ECL?

Don't forget the mess of free feats, SR, Natural AC, psionics, spell like abilities, asounding listen/spot, reach (for abominations), and god knows what else. Truely a race that shouldn't be a player.

Do elves stack (in a 5' square)

If you want to house rule it, something along the lines of -4 to all attack rolls and no Dex bonus makes pretty good sense. Only allowing light weapons, or medium piercing weapons also feels about right. You also could disallow a Reflex save, or penalize it. In any case that should be only for 2...

to weapon master or not to weapon master?

It might be worth picking up the class from a Role-playing respect more than anything. If you want to be truly great with a certain weapon. I'd still probably pick up some fighter levels just for the feats though. That being said, its pretty hard to beat a straight fighter in the end.

    Gaze Attack question

Ack 7 Bodaks? Thats nasty, you're bound to miss one of those rolls especially as a wizard. Funny thing is your DM was probably thinking it wouldn't be such a big deal because you'd likely have Death Ward up anyway. Ah well. These things happen.

    Orcus question...

Speaking of instant death annihilation, what is up with the Absorbing Shield? My DM rolled one up in our last campaign and then he looked it up and about died. You can shield bash someone or block an attack by a weapon, or whatever and its just like touching a Sphere of Annihilation. In other...
