D&D 5E (2014) Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

Yep! It's now been both ways (species-specific and non-species-specific) so any player can choose for themselves in their own campaign how they want to run it. Just like they get to choose for themselves what caused The Mourning and whether the Sovereigns are real or not. If the originator of...

D&D 5E (2024) What is With Poison?, and Other PHB Conundrums.

Not all at all. You can complain all you want. But that won't stop me from saying that I think the complaints are silly. You don't like that I think the complaints are silly? Don't Reply to one of my posts then. You're the one who first chose to Reply and engage with me. @the Jester same...

D&D 5E (2024) What is With Poison?, and Other PHB Conundrums.

Look, if the two of you are perfectly fine having the DM screw over the players like that because "that's how the rules are written"... go nuts. Doesn't bother me none. But no one should then complain that rules are written that way, because any DM worth their salt changes the rules to fit...

D&D Adds Two New Books to 2025 Slate, Including New Eberron Book

Keith's new book on DMs Guild-- 'Frontiers of Eberron - Quickstone' include their version of the Lesser Dragonmark origin feat and might be the basis or foundation of what they are going to include in the new WotC book. His book also states the following (regarding the "more powerful"...

D&D 5E (2024) What is With Poison?, and Other PHB Conundrums.

The 'horrid' and 'fockery' were not referencing DMs in general (whether they follow rules or not), but rather the ones that Ezekiel has had to deal with over their time with the game (as anyone who reads a lot of their posts know they've had to deal with a lot of crap DMs.) And in any case, my...

D&D 5E (2024) What is With Poison?, and Other PHB Conundrums.

Thankfully, your experience is not universal experience. I know that from a lot of your posts you seem to end up getting stuck playing with apparently some absolutely horrid DMs all the time... but my experience has never had the same amount of fockery you seem to deal with. So while I can...

D&D General Ray Winninger on 5e’s success, product cadence, the OGL, and more.

Except we weren't talking money, we were talking size. Do you want to make the claim that the OSR community is one of the biggest TTRPG communities out there? I mean if you really want to, go right ahead... but I'm gonna still go with my original belief that the OSR community is only a very...

Yeah... they should really work on that. :D

D&D General Ray Winninger on 5e’s success, product cadence, the OGL, and more.

I do not doubt that a lot of the little changes sprinkled about the game were made specifically to make it easier to incorporate into Project Sigil if/when that truly opens fully to the public. But I don't think that is that surprising, nor is it necessarily a massive hardship to playing the...

D&D General Ray Winninger on 5e’s success, product cadence, the OGL, and more.

Heh heh... yeah, but that's why they keep complaining and going on and on about what should have happened. In the tiniest of hope that WotC changes their mind at some point and turns the game back around to the way they want it. :) It's not going to happen of course... but better to hang onto...

It might just be that I perhaps just don't see the break as being as possibly as wide as you? Frankly, I just don't think most of the playerbase cares... especially considering most of the playerbase doesn't even use 3rd party stuff where they'd need to worry about "compatibility" or the name...

D&D General Ray Winninger on 5e’s success, product cadence, the OGL, and more.

Honestly? I think it's because the OSR community already knows that they are a minor splinter group of the overall TTRPG community, so they just feel like that if they have this one thing in common, they should just stick together and work around any issues. Whereas as we all know... WotC D&D...

D&D General Ray Winninger on 5e’s success, product cadence, the OGL, and more.

I suspect WotC probably doesn't really care how us community members in places like this spend our time arguing about all this crap, LOL! They're probably like "Let me them argue about it amongst themselves all they want... rather than them all continually showing up on our doorstep trying to...

D&D General Ray Winninger on 5e’s success, product cadence, the OGL, and more.

Putting aside the standard quality of life improvements that make it easier to find and/or understand the game (because those are just as useful to veteran players as they are to new players so I wouldn't attribute them to catering to new players specifically)... for me it's more about what WotC...

D&D General Ray Winninger on 5e’s success, product cadence, the OGL, and more.

Eh... yes and no (in my personal opinion.) Do I think the designers of D&D want to make a game that all fans of D&D and RPGs would like? Sure. But do I also think they are well aware that they CAN'T make a game that all fans of D&D and RPGs would like? Absolutely. They are not stupid just...

I agree! But the way some people comment on certain threads certainly does not come across as curiosity-- it comes off as people genuinely irritated, thrilled, upset, in love, or in pain. And at no point do I ever think that these games or the decisions of the people who make them deserve that...

D&D 5E (2024) What is With Poison?, and Other PHB Conundrums.

Not to mention the fact that a lot of DMs probably won't care or even remember goblins are now fey and will let the spell work anyway because why not? What's the harm? And also... even if the DM does not allow it to work, it only takes one time for a player to try and charm a goblin for the DM...

Mapping the Town - What should a Fantasy Town look like?

And yet, if we're trying to determine any sort of "realism" (by our human real-world standards)... it probably should.
  20. DEFCON 1

D&D General Ray Winninger on 5e’s success, product cadence, the OGL, and more.

But the real question for anyone else in particular about any of this is "Does it actually matter?" Now perhaps for someone like you or Mike Shea... designers who have to decide whether or not to hitch your future designs to the 5E24 wagon or not... trying to forecast 5E24's future is only...
