The AT-AT has arrived and it's huge...

Looks like a project of a mad artificer to me. Like a warforged titan with the intelligence of an elephant rather than a human. :)

    "1-shot" Games

I'm about to run The Mummy's Revenge (a Thrilling Tales adventure from Adamant). Pulp adventure/mystery is perfect for a one-shot since it has lots of built-in atmosphere you don't have to develop yourself and, as the adventure text says, "Cliches are your friends."

    The Jester's Deck

To prevent abuse use the same technique as the original deck. Once you've drawn your allotment, the deck vanishes. This is especially appropriate given the "prankster" attitude displayed. I like the Jack of Hearts. Sounds like a Planar Ally spell? Always fun. You could do an opposite...

    Planescape: A Hopeless Beginning

Krikit nods. "Sounds good to me."

Using your XP instead of Mage XP

Only time (and playtesting) will tell. I think 150% sounds about right.

    Cave of the Spiders OOC

We'll give Lord Raven and d20Dazza until tomorrow (since they're on the far side of the world), then we'll carry on and assume he's just going to have the bugbear run distraction. Remember that if you try to get the bugbear to do something it's very opposed to (like attacking his comrades) he...

    The -5, Take 10 Rule

My only complaint is that you didn't call it "Take 5". How can you not call it Take 5! :) Actually I agree with the Jester on this one. The whole point of not being able to take 10 in combat is that you can't rely onyour performance. What you've done is basically say "you can take 10, but...

Using your XP instead of Mage XP

I think it's a fine idea. In the Living Nights project we worked up some ritual rules that, among other things, let you share XP costs for magic items. They work similarly in that it takes more total XP to do it that way, but the caster doesn't have to bear the entire cost.

How would you respond to someone like this?

Patient: Doctor, doctor! It hurts when I do this! Doctor: Then don't do that. :) You can be a powergaming twinkie in any system. Remember, the word "munchkin" predates 3rd edition by quite a number of years. 3rd edition is complex and modular enough that doing an "optimum build" is now...

Businesses saying keep the rowdy children at home.

I don't think requiring a certain level of behavior is discrimination. That's like saying it's discriminatory to throw loud, obnoxious drunks out of a bar while the quiet, friendly drunks can stay as long as they want.

    Cave of the Spiders OOC

So the ball is in the party's court. The dominated bugbear is hanging out on the platform 40 feet below, trying to look casual. You don't see any other opposition at the moment.

Businesses saying keep the rowdy children at home.

<soapbox> I have two children (ages 7 and 3) and we take them to all sorts of restaurants. The most out-of-hand either has ever gotten is that the 3-year-old likes to go under the table from bench to bench when we sit at a booth. No yelling, no screaming, certainly no running around (though...

    Looting Dead Comrades

Depends entirely on what the paladin's code is. They vary. In some cultures taking anything from the dead is considered a major no-no, while others would say that using the fallen warrior's weapons and tools to keep fighting evil is honoring him. What's the paladin's background, etc? Does...

    Buying single DDM online--whaddaya think?

eBay auctions can be annoying, but remember to check the eBay stores. There are several of them that sell single DDM minis for flat prices. No bidding, no waiting, just buy what you want. Some of them take credit cards, or you can use PayPal.

    Fuma Shuriken

Actually I agree on the weight, but not for realism (what fun is that :) ). You will definitely want to carry several of these things, and at 3 feet across that's just not practical. If you do only want to carry one (maybe it's got a Returning enhancement) you can always have the center part...

    Planescape: A Hopeless Beginning

Krikit smiles oddly at Estariel's spider metaphor, but remains quiet to hear Elandra's response.

From the SRD (emphasis added): What a strength bonus means for a net I have no idea, but yes shuriken count. Ogre monks are nasty with them. :)

    Buying single DDM online--whaddaya think?

I've used icon usa and they've been good. There are lots of places to order. I think it's well worth doing, especially if you want them primarily for RP purposes. You can definitely save money. I also bought some Star Wars minis for my D&D game. Some of the figures have either no weapons or...

It usually starts with a dinner party

Caspar Hauser Intro Caspar Hauser kneeled on the smooth floor, his forehead resting against the cool tiles and his hands bound behind him. Blood and sweat ran down his face and he felt the inside of his mouth gingerly with his tongue, tasting the place where his front teeth used to be. He...
