Actually I was thinking my homebrew. It's a pretty standard-issue D&D world, which is to say nothing like Eberron. Much lower magic, so this guy would have been considered a pretty powerful caster there. Since you want him to be a social power here, I'll make sure to give him a high Diplomacy...
