D&D 5E (2014) Enough about Darksun, is there anything preventing a 5.5E Birthright remake?

Oh yeah, this set-up also works. One of the published campaigns has the players start as free agents and they don't get to be the bosses of anywhere for quite some time.

D&D 5E (2014) Enough about Darksun, is there anything preventing a 5.5E Birthright remake?

Oh absolutely, but the time and effort it would take to create enough realms to satisfy Birthright fans and then create the material needed to work as the starting politics for the setting would be monumental. And in Birthright there is a mechanical dimension to the political game, as well as...

D&D 5E (2014) Enough about Darksun, is there anything preventing a 5.5E Birthright remake?

The Welsh/Irish Celticism and mysticism that ran through much of the setting was something I clicked with, being a bit Welsh, a bit Irish and a bit Scottish!

D&D 5E (2014) Enough about Darksun, is there anything preventing a 5.5E Birthright remake?

Orogs, that was it! And the Gorgon is just one of many, right? And while they do differ in power, they're all pretty much filling the role the Sorcerer-Kings had in Dark Sun. I also like that a couple of them are pretty misunderstood and doing the best thing for the people of their realm, as...

D&D 5E (2014) Enough about Darksun, is there anything preventing a 5.5E Birthright remake?

Birthright/Cerillia is my all-time favourite D&D setting. Here are the cool things I like about it and then some problems I think a reboot would face. The more realistic/pretty overwhelming number of small states and petty territories all fitting together like a crazy jigsaw is a big change...

    D&D 5E (2024) Pulse check on 1D&D excitement level

I'm cautiously cautious. It wouldn't take much for me to jump back onto 5e. A tweak here. More interesting levelling there. But I'm not seeing it and I'm not feeling it. But come the day I'll take a look.

More evidence that all bards are Maoist.

Sugar. It's a subtle, insidious killer. I want to see my blood pressure rocket and feel the catastrophic heart attack knock on the door. Preferably, I'd explode like a character in some 80s anime.

I mean, it'd be great if the Coca-Cola Company put the cocaine back into cans of Coke, but it just wouldn't be good optics.

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

A million years ago in a different life, we put Irving Welsh's Trainspotting on our department's Scottish Literature course; the students revolted because they found it revolting and it had to be pulled from the reading list and exam. Never mind that it's arguably the most important Scottish...

    Dogs in the Vineyard: Playbooks

I've always wanted to run Dogs but it was unavailable by the time I got around to looking. With these sheets I might just be able to reverse engineer something, so thank you very much!

Monte Cook teases The Magnus Archives Roleplaying Game

I like the sound of it, but at the same time it also sounds like the kind of thing my Delta Green team would....uh....[REDACTED].

D&D General How would you redo 4e?

Aw man, I'm not being cheeky (I am being cheeky) but I would redo 4th Edition by writing 13th Age. More seriously, something that keeps the tacticalness and range of monster-roles and stuff, but also simplifies it so you don't need a computer to crunch the details (I'M LOOKING AT YOU PF2!)...

Warner Bros wants to make Lord of the Rings films. Not remakes, fyi.

Hmmm if I remember correctly all the MERP PCs wiped them out. More seriously, the 4th Age probably has the most potential for new movies. Magic fading, elves disappearing, hobbits going into stealth mode, orcs as both threat and sympathetically doomed characters, human nobility on the wane. And...

Monster Of The Week Retro Review

It's a great game and I've used it to introduce total newbs to RPGing and every time it's worked a treat. The D&D Beginner's Set should use PtbA, I tell ya!

What is the least amount of rules you need?

I've got a friend who runs AD&D with no books, no characters sheets and the only rule is "roll high good" for anything anyone might need to roll for. I like to make a pretence at character sheets when I run light. Medium to heavy crunch games just bring out the editor in me. Everything can be...

Broken Weave: An Interview With Cubicle 7 Games’ Elaine Lithgow

I love what Cubicle 7 did with Adventures In Middle Earth, so I'm looking forward to picking this up when it goes retail.
