    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Player's Handbook: When YOU Can Get It!

As much as I'm impatient to have these books in hand ... I don't see myself starting a campaign until I have the full set anyway ...

Trailer Star Trek: Section 31 | Teaser Trailer | Paramount+

My take is that I don't mind Section 31 existing, I have a problem with them being right. So as long as the Section 31 film is a fun romp and doesn't make the point that "we need hard people doing immoral stuff so the rest can live in peace and this is objectively correct." then I'm in for more...

D&D General What do you prefer to give/get XP for?

I can't recall where I heard/read this, but it's something that has stuck in my brain, an XP system should also take inspiration from video game Achievements. IE, doing something wacky or out of the box could warrant XP. Obviously, not completely, achievements are more to encourage multiple...

D&D General What do you prefer to give/get XP for?

I use milestone leveling, but I've debated going back to XP. Now, I would probably be a lot chonkier with my XP, ie, use smaller numbers. Like, ideally it takes 20-50 XP to level up. Gain 1 for defeating a difficult encounter, Gain 1 for reaching a plot milestone, 1 for a Character milestone. I...

D&D General In Celebration of Over The Top Violence in D&D

I don't mind blood, but I do tend to draw the line and more visceral violence in my DnD. Kill Bill Vol1, Oren's execution of the Yakuza boss and the big fight between the Crazy 88, for example, is fun and within bounds. Invincible, otoh, Omni-Man shredding his fellow Superheroes, is a bit much...

D&D 5E (2024) Is anyone going to use the new 2024 backgrounds?

Yeah, with the assumption that if a player really wanted to swap out a stat upgrade or otherwise customize a background, I'd allow it as a DM. These are starting points to me, and if they fit as written, great, if not, ask and we'll change it.

    D&D 5E (2024) New Jeremy Crawford Interviews

Oh, all this work because some crankiness over Divine Smite becoming a spell? Yeah, back to my initial comment, the juice is definitely not worth the squeeze. I don't even agree that the wheel is broken.

D&D General How to approach hostility (in the background) between in-world countries caused by players?

Then in general, I'd suggest that patrons and questgivers should feel like they are positioning themselves towards a potential conflict. The dwarf that hires the team to find a priceless Elven relic wants it because they can sell it to one of the militaristic factions within the Wood Elven...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Jeremy Crawford Interviews

This is fair, I just don't see the point in reinventing a wheel just because. But I also think this is something that is better for a PH2 sorta thing. Give me more exotic classes and I'd be annoyed if they were also spellcasters. Summoners, wouldn't necessarily give them spell slots. Warlords...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Jeremy Crawford Interviews

To be bluntly honest, yes, Paladins have had a close relationship to Clerics, so having them both be casters is a piece of mechanical symmetry that I like. It's why they also share Channel Divinity, it strengthens their common bond as wielders of divine magic. And I don't agree that this is a...

D&D General How to approach hostility (in the background) between in-world countries caused by players?

Without actually throwing them into a skirmish, some ideas: Having them encounter refugees moving out of border areas. Merchants increasing prices of weapons and healing potions as they are getting bought up by stockpilers Running into mercenary companies marching towards the conflict zones...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Jeremy Crawford Interviews

So are you advocating removing all spellcasting from the Paladin to tack on some smite point system? I've gone from "juice probably not worth the squeeze" to "hard pass".

D&D 5E (2014) wis Warlocks and con Sorcerers

I highly dislike using Constitution as a casting stat. Tried it playing the Battlemind in 4e and I've come to the conclusion that Constitution is a defensive stat and shouldn't be used for attacking or spellcasting. Player Characters are already heavily motivated to have a decent Constitution...

D&D 5E (2024) How many of you would implement the drop to 0 HP, get 1 level of exhaustion house rule?

Conceivably for like a Dark Sun campaign, but not in general. If this is mainly about wanting to stop the process of waiting to heal a PC until they get dropped, then may I suggest instead BG3 house rule of losing one's action the turn after being revived?

Where do you watch your favorite anime?

I have a few anime through ... means, but generally if it's not on a streaming service I follow, I don't have access. I don't watch enough to warrant a Crunchyroll subscription (do they have a free account option?), so mainly stuff that's on Netflix/Amazon Prime, but I've been queueing up a...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Jeremy Crawford Interviews

According to Treantmonk and Colby of D4 Deep Dive, who do a general discussion of the new PHB in videos on each of the other's channel, the floor has been raised, but the ceiling lowered ... slightly. They come at it from an optimizer's perspective and some of the main ways to get high burst...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Jeremy Crawford Interviews

YMMV, but tbh, taking them off of Concentration and triggering on a hit so the slot is never wasted counts as a "massive buff". I cannot recall ever seeing a single smite spell cast by a Paladin, and the general consensus in my group after seeing that UA was "Okay, I can see myself actually...
