Could we possibly come up with a different abbreviation for these clowns* ? To me. "EGG" is always going to be "E. Gary Gygax" (*No offense meant to clowns)

D&D 5E (2024) How should the Swordmage be implemented in 1DnD?

I'd like to see a 5e Swordmage that fills the same role as it had in 4e; a defender that has actual class features to discourage monsters from targeting the party squishies.

D&D 5E (2014) Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

Chris Cocks is a published author, of a YA fantasy novel (under the name Christian Page.. wonder why ;) He wasn't always a corporate suit.

D&D 5E (2014) Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

I think that's unlikely. The adventure blurb says "some of the multiverse's most famous archmages". Laeral Silverhand may be a big deal on the Sword Coast, but she's not "multiverse-famous". I'd say the main candidates are the ones that have spells named after them in the PHB; Tasha...

The writeoff is the difference between the imagined money and the real money. That doesn't mean it was a bad investment. It could be bad, but it could also have been a good investment, just not quite as good as hoped.

It's a bit more complicated than that. Hasbro transferred the most valuable assets owned by eOne to other business units before selling it, so they were never going to get the same amount back. Did Hasbro overvalue eOne before the sale? Absolutely, but that doesn't it was a bad deal overall.

D&D General Official D&D In Decline. Source Hasbro.

Writedowns aren't debt. Selling eOne actually reduced Hasbro's debt, since about 125 million of it was held by eOne, and now belongs to someone else. They also used most of the proceeds from the sale to pay off other debts. Hasbro may have hoped that they could sell eOne for more and so pay...

So the "loss" is mostly the eOne writedown, that was never more than imaginary money in the first place. Not great for Hasbro shareholders, but it has no effect on the company's ability to pay its bills going forward.

D&D General The Resurrection of Mike Mearls Games.

Knock is so noisy it's not really an alternative to letting the Rogue open the door, more an alternative to having the Barbarian do it.

D&D General Joe Manganiello: Compares Early 5E to BG 3 . How Important is Lore?

You can never lose copyright (until it expires) no matter what, you can sit on it for as long as you want. You can potentially lose trademark rights if you let people use your trademark to refer to something other than your product. If gamers start calling every RPG "Dungeons & Dragons" then...

This argument has been used many times before. Why not post something original instead?

D&D 5E (2024) Should Green Flame Blade and Booming Blade be in the new PHB?

These two spells can be build defining, so they should definitely be part of the basic foundation of D&D. In fact, it wouldn't hurt if they added a few more gish type spells in the same pattern.

D&D 5E (2014) Steamboat Willie Available on DMs Guild!

I get it, you're not in the market for Mickey Mouse stories, but that doesn't mean nobody is. It's a big world out there, and people have different preferences and experiences.

D&D 5E (2014) Steamboat Willie Available on DMs Guild!

Using an established character in your story means you can jump right into the action instead of using page count on introducing the setting and characters. And it can absolutely help you commercially if it's a character that people like and want more stories about. Disney has been using...

D&D 5E (2014) If you had natural armor, would you wear manufactured armor?

A lizardman could probably get away with just wearing mail with no padding underneath. Mechanically that could be reflected by a reduced STR requirement, or no stealth penalty on some armors that usually have it.

D&D 5E (2014) If you had natural armor, would you wear manufactured armor?

If expect to get hit, I'll wear armor when appropriate if it's more protective than my natural armor. Most of the natural armor traits in 5e are only good if combined with good DEX, so most classes will still benefit from wearing medium or heavy armor.

D&D 5E (2014) Steamboat Willie Available on DMs Guild!

Mickey Mouse may be pretty boring in most of his cartoon appearances, but he also features in a bunch of excellent comics where he goes on adventures and solves crimes. That aspect of the character is still under copyright, but someday.... Edit: Mickey Mouse in Death Valley was published in...

D&D 5E (2014) Steamboat Willie Available on DMs Guild!

But the character Mickey Mouse is in the public domain, at least the earliest versions of him. The US patent office has ruled that you are permitted to use a trademarked name to refer to a public domain character in your product, as long as the use is descriptive and doesn't give any false...

    D&D General Inquisitor class

Any class that can cast Zone of Truth, so Cleric, Bard or Paladin. Zone of Truth + the authority to compel suspects to answer questions is really the only thing you need for a successful inquisition.

D&D General No, Hasbro Is Not Selling D&D

Anton Petrov is a good example of the dangers of youtube. He purports to be a science reporter, but most of the stuff he posts is pseudoscience at best. He demonstrates how someone who is charming, well spoken and flattering can easily fill our heads with nonsense.
