D&D 5E (2014) Quests from the Infinite Staircase TOC and Zargon.

Seems slightly lower than what Mike mentioned on his channel prior to the FoF release. I'll assume play-testing suggested going lower, hence the change. DPR 107 is basically the DMG average. Other than the damage I think the Zargon stats are fine (and quite fun). Arguably the bigger...

D&D 5E (2014) Quests from the Infinite Staircase TOC and Zargon.

Well he is dealing about 92 damage assuming everything hits and all saves are failed. If we use Mike Shea's 7.5 Dmg per CR (which I think is a good guideline) Zargon's damage is on par with a CR 12-13 monster. For CR 17 we should be looking at closer to 127 damage. Zargon is about 70% as...

D&D 5E (2014) Quests from the Infinite Staircase TOC and Zargon.

Irrelevant for the point I was making which was he is weak for CR 17...though probably on par with other monsters of that CR, very few official monsters ever seem to pack a punch. I already stated he might be a fun challenge for a low to mid party. To me a CR 17 threat should be a Solo...

D&D 5E (2014) Quests from the Infinite Staircase TOC and Zargon.

One-vs-one my Level 20 Fighter beats Zargon in a round (with attacks to spare)...although that character has a few unofficial items...but even with the official items he drops Zargon like a bag of dirt inside 2 rounds. WotC seem afraid to actually make monsters deadly. I don't know if that's on...

D&D 5E (2014) Quests from the Infinite Staircase TOC and Zargon.

I was lucky enough to swap a few emails with Gary in the early 2000's. Was not aware of that, who related that...Jim Ward? I dunno. 1000 hp seems quite a lot though considering deity HP is doubled on their home plane, but would have been interesting. Remembering of course Takhisis had 999...

Exactly, but then again neither were any of the other unique singular entities in that book. Plus the 1E Monster Manuals and Fiend Folio all preceded Deities & Demigods and the Manual of the Planes.

I think a lot of groups back in the day we're steam rolling the big bads. Oddly enough the same thing that happens today.

D&D 5E (2014) Quests from the Infinite Staircase TOC and Zargon.

Remember Tiamat only had 128 HP in 1st edition. So virtually all the Archdevils are on par or better than her. Plus Gary was planning (just before being ousted) a book revising ALL the stats for all unique beings in all the monster books with increased hit points. Possibly to bring them in...

D&D 5E (2014) Quests from the Infinite Staircase TOC and Zargon.

1st Edition Manual of the Planes states the Archdevils are considered Lesser Gods in their home plane. Says the same for Demon Princes. The Archomentals (princes of Elemental evil) are demipowers.

D&D 5E (2014) Quests from the Infinite Staircase TOC and Zargon.

Well that probably works, as long as you give a thought for how one thing impacts everything else. (IMO) I don't think there is a valid reason why Asmodeus should be more powerful than say Orcus, Demogorgon or Graz'zt. In the AD&D lore at least, Asmodeus position as King of Hell was tenuous...

D&D 5E (2014) Quests from the Infinite Staircase TOC and Zargon.

Well the situation (when it made sense in AD&D ) was that the Archdukes were considered Lesser Gods. That was changed in 2nd Edition when they tried to get away from the potential of gods as 'monsters' and the whole Baatezu, Tanar'ri debacle to avoid using the terms devil and demon. So initially...

D&D 5E (2014) Quests from the Infinite Staircase TOC and Zargon.

If he has the power of a Lesser God then that assumes he has the status of a Lesser God even if the title of Arch-devil takes precedence over the title of deity. ...not sure why Asmodeus is the only Arch-devil with such power though? That doesn't make much sense in the overall context of his...

D&D 5E (2014) Quests from the Infinite Staircase TOC and Zargon.

More interesting than average for a WotC stat-block, but as usual, the damage dealt is pathetic (for its respective CR). But not sure what level the adventure is set for, so he might be an okay boss monster for a mid-level Party. Quite like the art. Probably the scariest Zargon we have ever seen.

    Immortals Handbook website back up

Howdy LunarSquid amigo! Was the place as beautiful as they say? I have seen some videos, looks gorgeous. Hopefully get to visit in the future (when I am not so busy). Glad you had a great time. Some days its like gazing into the Abyss (trying to finish this thing). Behind the scenes...

    Immortals Handbook website back up

Slight heads up just in case the immortalshandbook.com website goes down. I am moving over to a new host and provider (getting the new and old websites under the same banner so to speak) so if the website is down over the next few days* (or week or two) its just me sorting everything out...not...

    D&D General Op gaming resources

That is true. Was only going to have 20 Purviews, but a God or Goddess of Dragons sounded cool when you suggested it, so 21 it is. Always happy to listen to suggestions. I know the book will be Epic, I just don't know exactly 'when' you'll all get to see it. Remember the PHB only takes you to...

    D&D General Op gaming resources

Well I was never inactive. Just tried my hands at other things for a few years. I dabbled in 4e, then was planning on becoming a video game designer - got my dream job then the rug of fate was pulled from under me. Then worked on a graphic novel. Then had some personal tragedies. Since then I...

    D&D General Op gaming resources

I am indeed. New 5e 400 page Immortals pdf coming soon then a few months later a Kickstarter for a new 300 page 5e Epic Bestiary (and the Print version of the aforementioned Immortals rulebook) with even crazier and more powerful monsters than even the Nexus Dragons and Neutronium Golems I had...

    Things from my setting

Thanks Obly99 amigo! :) Just picked up a copy...a few more of my monsters in there than just the Gibborim, but all good. Pity they didn't have a massive art budget, would have been nice to see my creations done artistic justice.

Very cool. Will pick up a copy of the pdf later (hopefully also on drive thru save me signing up to another site). Good to see the 'old girl'* still getting some respect. I appreciate the love Rite Publishing guys (if you ever read this). *The Bestiary I mean.
