    D&D General Op gaming resources

One of the new epic/immortal species in the book has static electricity for hair and innate control over gravity and are called the Zayans*. *name possibly subject to change before release as I run it past a lawyer or two in case I get Kamehameha'd. :giggle:

    D&D General Op gaming resources

I appreciate the love. My 400 page player's guide is 'almost' ready. Just need a couple of months. It lets you take Level 20 characters up to Divine Rank 30, on a scale where someone like Zeus would be Divine Rank 6. So you can easily duplicate any crazy anime like Dragonball. 21 Purviews let...

D&D 5E (2014) Players Handbook Expanded Cover Art

Superior (in every way IMO) to the 2024 PHB cover. Not at all muddy. Better composition. Thankfully not pastel-y (the bane of official 5E art). Torch flame excellent. Good work.

D&D 5E (2024) New Dungeon Master's Guide Cover Features Venger (From the D&D Cartoons)

Might have been able to shoot an ice beam (IIRC)...I do recall him striking a tree someone was hiding in and the frost moved up the tree and encased them in ice.

D&D 5E (2024) New Dungeon Master's Guide Cover Features Venger (From the D&D Cartoons)

Better than the PHB cover (IMO). I appreciate the nostalgia-bait, loved the cartoon. Warduke was cooler with his Frostbrand though.

D&D General The Evolution of the Monster Stat Block

I'm leaning towards the 4E stat-block. I think the 5E version is too spread out with too much redundancy and wasted space. By condensing the 5E stat- block you would have room for more lore and/or variants. I think the 4E version does look a bit drab, but conveys all the combat information...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Updates: Monstrous Compendium

I appreciate the kind words amigo! Slowly inching to the finish line. The Tiamat stuff looks fantastic, great work.

D&D 5E (2014) Bigger monsters do more damage

Using the Balor as an example the Death Throes blast radius is roughly equal to the monsters height rounded up. In this case 112.5 ft. rounded up to 120 let's say. Works out at DC 24 CON save...maybe reducing by 1 each subsequent round.

    Kuvachim Golem

No...however. The Great Wall is was just based on the 8th Heaven being "made of diamond". I borrowed elements from the Book of Enoch and the Urantia Book, for that one. As regards the DC Source Wall its actually more like another structure I discuss in the new book (still a month or two away...

D&D 5E (2014) Bigger monsters do more damage

Anytime amigo. I thought it was well done, although the idea does make some serious impact on damage...Though I would argue official damage is far too low. Yes it's interesting trying to balance things like that. The multi-attack chain has the chance of dealing a crit. sometimes you have to...

D&D 5E (2014) Bigger monsters do more damage

I agree to an extent. To use the God of War analogy, having massive climb-able or explore-able monsters is cool, but you also need the numbers to go up so the other enemies are also threat. Godzilla and Kratos might be in around the same ballpark in terms of power. The easy way to explain that...

D&D 5E (2014) Bigger monsters do more damage

You sort of need to do both. Otherwise you end up like the 200 feet dinosaurs from Wotcs Glory of the Giants dealing 30 damage on a hit or something like that.

D&D 5E (2014) Bigger monsters do more damage

    62 (15d6+10) punch, 107 (15d12+10) stomp. vulnerable to fire.

D&D 5E (2014) Bigger monsters do more damage

You could make the argument such a monster SHOULD on average kill a PC every round. But yes my level 20 Fighter (now with 7 epic boons) never leaves home without his Cloak of Displacement and would likely solo that Red Dragon in one round...albeit he has some crazy loot from Stonehell.

D&D 5E (2014) Bigger monsters do more damage

Hey Dave buddy! Interesting idea (though I have settled on multiattack damage being 25% of hit dice myself, with recharges 100% and Reactions 12.5%). One thing I did notice was that your Dragon's breath weapon is notably weaker than its multiattack. I guess you could argue it's an area effect...

    D&D 5E (2024) New D&D Edition's Player’s Handbook Cover Reveal

One thing about the cover bothers me...why is Strongheart so scrawny? Is that for another future Wizkids "reveal"? Other than that, it's a pretty good cover. Artists original cover sketch seemed to have Ringlerun on it but I guess that's a bridge too far these days. Looking forward to seeing...

    D&D 5E (2014) Level = Challenge Rating

Possibly, but quick-fixing the Challenge Rating "system" is a LOT easier than assigning 'Level' to the thousands of existing monster stat-blocks. If Level parallels Hit Dice and Challenge Rating derives from Hit Dice, then suggesting Monsters be measured by 'Level' wouldn't be necessary...

    D&D 5E (2014) Level = Challenge Rating

I agree the assignment of a Challenge Rating is a "hot mess", but the system itself is functional IF you just build the monsters using consistent (unified) rules. 1. Link Hit Dice with Challenge Rating as follows: CR 2 = 3 HD CR 4 = 6 HD CR 6 = 9 HD CR 8 = 12 HD CR 10 = 15 HD CR 12 = 20 HD CR...

    D&D 5E (2014) Level = Challenge Rating

Character Levels always seemed to be worth 2/3rds of a Challenge Rating to me. That seems borne out by the Monster Manual NPCs. However, I have been playing a lot of high-level 5E this past year and I think the two main problems are: 1. The Monsters don't hit hard enough for their Challenge...

D&D 5E (2014) Here's All The Loot In B&G's Vecna: Eve of Ruin Platinum Edition

Web Bomb is a recharge. But even assuming a damage of 70 that's lower than a Storm Giant and its standard multiattack is lower than a CR 9 Fire Giant. I presume you mean "CR 18" by the 2014 DMG rules which people have been telling WotC don't make sense at high level for the past 9+ years and...
