I may be wrong, but I believe I'm likely that someone. Glad it worked out for you!

    D&D 5E (2014) Vampires in 5e

Monsters and Death, page 198. Monsters don't make death saves, unless the DM makes them a special case.

    D&D 5E (2014) Vampires in 5e

The only support I think of is logic. If it's so simple to snuff it out after the change, what's the point? I believe the RAI is that sunlight is required to destroy it in that form, it just wasn't written very well.

D&D 5E (2014) A case where the 'can try everything' dogma could be a problem

A player plays a role on FATE, in Dogs in the Vineyard, even in Fiasco, and I'd accept that it is arguable that Fiasco is actually an RPG and not just an exercise in improv. But the last sentence of yours makes me want to back slowly away from the thread. The earth is flat. Alrighty then.

D&D 5E (2014) A case where the 'can try everything' dogma could be a problem

Over 4 different groups and few dozen I game with, none of them are anywhere near this vehemently opposed to this style of game. I don't disagree that this is your opinion, you are welcome to it, but it's not that of a "significant portion" of the RPG fanbase. You could call that anecdotal...

    D&D 5E (2014) PotA Worth Buying?

Right, it's the difference in style coming through. When an adventure throws you in the middle of something happening, you are directed to react to that and follow through with it. I mean, sure, you can start an adventure with goblins attacking the town the party is in, and the players can...

D&D 5E (2014) Campaign Settings 5e- Why I want to Forget the Realms

Fantasy or not, every time I consider it, it strikes me as quite bizarre. Killing = death = good. Sex = life = bad. Seems bass ackwards, amiright?

    D&D 5E (2014) PotA Worth Buying?

Just want to make sure we're talking about the same adventure here. :) A lot of NPCs, even relatively minor ones, have motivations spelled out for them. There are plenty of opportunities for roleplay, to the point that one of my more combat-oriented players has asked a couple times, "So, are...

    D&D 5E (2014) PotA Worth Buying?

There may not seem like a sense of urgency in PotA from reading through it as a potential DM, but trust me, the players feel it through the events that take place as the party interferes with the cults. In fact, one of the players even said last session, "We need to take these a-holes down...

D&D 5E (2014) Campaign Settings 5e- Why I want to Forget the Realms

Tanis was typical, Drizzt was meant to be a one-of-a-kind.

Some players can be to blame, too. For every wannabe that insisted on playing a Drizzt clone, there's likely more than one person who played with him that hates Drizzt.

D&D 5E (2014) A case where the 'can try everything' dogma could be a problem

I didn't mean to say 2e was bad because some of the adventures were bad. Just that the adventures were bad. White Wolf was a serious #2 in the 90s, to the point that TSR did try to follow the style with their adventures. Not saying that style of game has ever been more popular than D&D...

D&D 5E (2014) Campaign Settings 5e- Why I want to Forget the Realms

This is a misperception. Actually, it was accurate in 2e, I guess. Adventures from the 90's certainly did involve powerful NPCs, were railroady and marysue-ish, and generally terrible. But since 3e, FR has been "these guys exist, but use or ignore them how ever you want."

D&D 5E (2014) A case where the 'can try everything' dogma could be a problem

AD&D 2e's ill-fated railroady "story adventures" followed WW, not the other way around. Lion Rampant created Whimsy Cards, a generic accessory to add more story and player agency into RPGS, and the followed up with Ars Magica, which, while not the first story game RPG, was the first popular...

D&D 5E (2014) Campaign Settings 5e- Why I want to Forget the Realms

Hmmm. Well, it's a bit tough to tell you whether the stuff you hate about it is still around if you don't remember why you hate it. I could say the high level NPC thing isn't a problem any more, but then it's never been a problem the few times I've run in FR. Drizzt, Elminster, et al, have...

D&D 5E (2014) Campaign Settings 5e- Why I want to Forget the Realms

I don't like cilantro. In fact, I hate, hate, hate it. So when a recipe calls for it, I replace it with something else, like mint, parsley, or basil. I could complain about the cilantro, something lots of people like, but I find it more constructive to just use something else. Just sayin...

    DRAGON+ Issue 3

This was my response to people that wanted more "useful" articles from Dragon+. How exactly is an article in an app in any way useful at the game table?

D&D 5E (2014) A case where the 'can try everything' dogma could be a problem

Yeah, I don't think play style is the type of thing the GM should try and secretly spring on the players in-game. It should be part of the discussion of the game before it begins so everyone understands expectations and can have input.
