    The trouble with 365_Bazaar

    OAs are not IAs, though.

    # of Daily and Utility Powers per day

How does this work when you replace spells later instead of gaining access to new ones, though? Do I pick 2 new ones and replace 2 old ones instead? If not, and if I can't use lower level daily spells in my daily slots, the wizard's supposed versatility advantage will largely disappear at...

Sensing the presence of magic - isn't the mechanic backward?

Off topic, but at first glance the first 3 posts looked like someone having a conversation with himself. I only just now realized there are two Morts...

Adjusting Irontooth encounter to be harder...

The Irontooth encounter is complicated. For a group that size and level I would think about maybe just 'guaranteeing' that one of the initial kobolds gets away to warn the later waves of combatants early, rather than leveling it up. The encounter is pretty well overpowering for a normal group if...

Do casters have a harder time hitting?

I'd say casters are fine with the caveat that laser clerics really do seem to suffer at least early on.

Response to recent article by James Wyatt on DMG

Also remember if you're not giving out enough magic weapons, armor, and neck slot items to keep their enhancement bonuses around the baseline the rules specify, you're going to be screwing up the game balance at higher levels, as the monster ACs, defenses, attack bonuses, etc., are all set with...

    Developer Talk = Gospel?

I've batted plenty of eyes at this pre-4e. Druids and conjurers in particular taking long turns in combat has for years been a huge problem with D&D. Cohorts were often even worse, especially when the cohort itself was a druid or other summoner. Don't mistake your own limited experience (by...

CustServ on "What is 'an attack'?"

This is just the level/level/level issue all over again. Attack does not mean the same thing in every place it is used in the rules and as such, without official errata or clarification, there's not going to be any endpoint for this argument. I know in my game, the description of a power as say...

Response to recent article by James Wyatt on DMG

I think he means it is odd from a realism perspective. D&D has always undervalued how useful shields are in terms of not getting hit, especially compared to the lighter armors. (At this point it is more a feature than a bug.)

Are they popular because of that, or are they popular despite that?

Judicious use and description of Minions [Edit-Now asking for stat analysis]

Note that the skeleton and zombie minions in the MM are pretty explicitly called out as being more decayed/rotted whatever than the regular kind.

    Do enemies know they're marked?

Marked is a condition defined in the list of conditions in the combat chapter of the Player's Handbook. I should think an enemy would be aware of what the marked condition imposes on it just like it would any other condition, like slowed or weakened, etc.

How to get the most out of CustServe, or Give the poor guys a break.

I'd guess they spend 90% of their time answering MtG or Pokemon questions rather than D&D, too, which could explain the appearance that there's a relative lack of D&D knowledge, but who knows, maybe they have some dedicated D&D people.

Judicious use and description of Minions [Edit-Now asking for stat analysis]

A monster from the first edition Monster Manual that basically existed entirely to attack PCs who listened at doors excessively.

Judicious use and description of Minions [Edit-Now asking for stat analysis]

I intend to make it pretty obvious who is and who is not a minion under most circumstances. Doing otherwise gets on to what I consider a fairly slippery slope towards actively trying to trick players into wasting abilities, which I think usually is going to foster DM vs. player antagonism. I've...

CustServ on "What is 'an attack'?"

Are custserv people empowered to decide that printed examples (like Wall of Fog) are just wrong if they're not in errata, or do they have to kind of do the same Talmudic scholar reading of things that we do? I would not at all be surprised to see that Wall of Fog thing disappear in errata some...

    Reviewing the Artificer

As the article says we've only got one build's worth of abilities at the moment. The final class will have at least twice as many at-will powers I expect.

    Cloud of Knives kills minions?

So no zone that deals damage will kill minions in your game? Imagine if there was a power that just created a zone without an attack roll, and the zone was described exactly as the 'effect' field in the cloud of daggers description. Would that kill minions?

    Cloud of Knives kills minions?

In my experience so far, almost nobody ever 'wastes' their turn on a single target swing against a minion, unless using Cloud of Daggers.
