What kind of PC game do you want from 4E?

I want real storywriting and dialogue, like NWN or Mass Effect, not like TOEE which was some of the worst dialogue writing I've ever seen in a game. Turn based or real-time with pausing are both acceptable.

    Multiclass Feat Weirdness?

In 4e terms I'm pretty sure this character is best represented as a paladin.

Fluff: Paizo vs 4e Monster Manual

While I wish the MM had more fluff than it does, a 75%/25% fluff:crunch ratio is a bad thing from my perspective. The main thing I want from a MM is stat blocks. I can fill in and create my own fluff, but even in 4e, stat blocks take time and the more of those I have ready to go, the better...

Pramas on 4E and New Gamers

I think that would be a huge mistake. Over the years, as I've dealt with a lot of new players, the one thing they all seem to latch onto first is the combat system. Things like actually talking in character, roleplaying out encounters, stuff like that makes people very self-conscious and often...

Pramas on 4E and New Gamers

Have you tried to introduce a new player to the game using it yet?

Pramas on 4E and New Gamers

I'd be interested to know how many of the people criticising the game's accessibility have actually tried to introduce a truly new player to the game with it.

Comments and dislikes of lore and other changes in the 4th ed MM.

My main beef is when they change the size of monsters they've already given us miniatures for (nightwalker, balor, I think mezzodemon, some others.)

Pramas on 4E and New Gamers

I think he's missed the point entirely. You don't bring in a new player by handing them the Player's Handbook and saying "OK absorb this." You do it with a product like Keep on the Shadowfell, with premade characters, etc. I can say from personal experience that this works well. We have a very...

    New Monk Rules

It does make it pretty clear that when we eventually get the monk, it will be a striker.

The highest-damage fighter power is level 3?!

As worded, it is 2 attacks vs. one target, then if you have the right weapon, you get one secondary attack vs. anyone. Seems acceptable to me. The lack of secondary effects with the hits mean that the power will likely get swapped even though it is pretty good damage. It isn't like you're going...

    What's up w/ DDI?

They booted the external developer and moved development inside from what I understand, so that's why there has been such a big delay on those features. (Also this thread should probably be in general, not the rules forum.)

Whoa. 4e is hard on PC mortality rates.

We haven't had a player death yet through roughly the first half of KotS, though we've had one or two close calls. Then again we have a couple very experienced DDM tournament players in the group, so we may have a better grasp on 4e tactics than most groups do this early on.

How do you feel about miniatures?

I prefer them to the point where if I found out that a particular game wasn't going to use them, I probably would turn down the invitation to play.

    Minions falling = autokill?

I'm ok with falling damage killing minions, as long as the PCs caused the fall.

A discussion of Keith Baker's post regarding the Skill Challenge system

All the Mr. Baker confused me as well as I initially thought we were talking about Rich Baker, who might very well have designed the skill challenge system.

Worst & most common DM mistakes

Answer only valid for me, but the thing I find I hate the most as a player these days is a lack of direction. I used to be able to play open ended, do what you want type games, but I find that as I get older and my gaming time is more and more constricted, I don't want to waste 2 hours of a 4...

    Poll: 1E or 2E?

1E with the 2E combat system grafted on. It is a relatively painless process to do, and the actual as-written 1E combat system is quite strange (very few people actually use it exactly as written.)

    Skill Challenges in Heathen (Dungeon)

It seems possible that the first few adventures we get will have been in the hopper since before the very last final form of the rules went to print. That is the case, for example, with the RPG blocks on the backs of the DDM stat cards for Dungeons of Dread and will also be the case with the...

Halfling Wizard - Staff Mastery - Size issues?

It isn't terribly problematic to have a halfling doing d8 with a two handed weapon, since that's what happens when they wield a longsword too. I'd probably just let them use a quarterstaff as a quarterstaff, personally. It creates less found loot issues that way.
