    Themes article up

Except it isn't a 'trap'. A mechanical trap would be something like a feat that adds no flavor at all and is inferior in every way to another feat or actually makes you worse. Animal Master is not that at all. Yes, it isn't as strong in terms of combat power as the other themes. That doesn't...

Trying to work around a DM's restriction

Given the recent change to flaming weapon I suspect changing your damage types with frost weapon, lightning weapon, etc., is probably not a long term solution anyway.

Do you remain Stealthed if you attack yourself?

In the case of the other stuff, I generally won't make a decision that makes a PC weaker just for my own OCD need for verisimilitude. :) Stuff that makes them vaguely stronger doesn't bother me unless it literally becomes game-breaking, and there's usually some social contract that can be...

Do you remain Stealthed if you attack yourself?

I'm not arguing fairness, really. More verisimilitude, in general. I don't see the vampire one as some kind of 'gotcha', I use it as my example because it is a really obvious case of 'bag of rats rule causes illogical result', that's all. (And yes I know that it also strains credulity to have a...

Looking for a Specific Picture from the CB

I'd say he appears to be a Red Wizard of Thay, personally.

Do you remain Stealthed if you attack yourself?

Immensely well, if you want a world where vampires can only suck the blood out of people who are fighting back. In practice you're not actually opening up that large of a can of worms by doing a bag-of-rats ruling on a case by case basis, as while there certainly are a huge crazy number of...

Do you remain Stealthed if you attack yourself?

I hardly think most players would be more aggrieved by an answer from the DM that gives them a way to do what they're asking as opposed to a plain "no."

You Wanted Character Themes, You Got 'Em - Dragon 399 ToC

Not necessarily. In character terms, they're quite different. Race is who you are, background is what you were, alignment is how you act. To take it further, I would perhaps think of theme as what you do and your class as how you do it. Narratively they're reasonably distinct, although I expect...

Do you remain Stealthed if you attack yourself?

I kind of see the bag of rats rule as a contingency to be broken out when something is actually abusive, rather than a hard and fast always applies thing. It squishes too many creative/flavor appropriate actions to be applied always to every situation, IMO. Example #1 in my mind would be using...

    What are themes?

I don't have the source handy but they definitely talked about a more complicated system either before Races and Classes or elsewhere in that book. Unfortunately EN World is about the only gaming-related site that isn't blocked for me at work, so I'm having a hard time tracking down the original...

    Feats & Fighters

There is some odd math going on in this thread. Unless you're at extreme ends of the d20 for hit/miss chance, shield will turn a hit into a miss 4 times out of 20. The end. The mark penalty and whatever else on there does not change that math, unless they've pushed it to a point where shield...

    What are themes?

The original talk was much more involved than 'use this weapon, get a rider', it was actually supposed to inform your stat choices, etc. I think they probably had something like that in placed, realized it was too complicated or led to to much MAD, etc., and pared it back to what we have now...

    Feats & Fighters

You mention it a lot, but I suspect there are tons of knight concepts being played out there that don't actually want to enter the priesthood for flavor reasons. To me more than anything that's the issue with the knight, that you can't mitigate the problems without going in a fluff direction...

    Temp HPs

Yeah I have a recollection of seeing something somewhere that explicitly stacks with itself.

    Temp HPs

Swordmage. Marked is a specific condition, typically imposed by defenders (but there are also some monsters that do it, and the odd power here and there in classes with defender secondary roles - clerics have a couple powers that mark I think for example.) Ranger quarry, warlock curse, etc., do...

    Temp HPs

The warlock's curse is not a mark, are you multiclassed or hybrid-ed into some defender class that marks?

How do you stop an Assassin's poisoned dagger

The answer would be poison immunity I suspect, but I too question why there's a need to stop it.

    Flaming Weapon Stealth Errata?

Neither is a 1 square slide, frankly. Pyromancer wouldn't be the first build ever to not really come into its own until later levels. In any case that's what specialization does. You get the benefits of specialization, and they're offset by narrower choice.

Compendium doesn't load on mobile devices anymore? Why?

Browsing to the compendium works fine on both my Xoom and Droid 2.

    Flaming Weapon Stealth Errata?

Except arguably the pyromancer upgrades scorching burst so that it is just as good as the other options. I don't see the problem, personally.
