    Readying Spells (kinda long)

Comments in no particular order: (1) Don't be surprised if you end up with all spellcasters. The last thing spellcasters need is a power boost relative to the other classes. It's all well and good to say that a GM can "balance on the fly," and I'd like to believe it of myself, and it's all...

    Quick Witch questions ...

Sorry about the lack of clarity. Let me try again: "If not otherwise specified in the hex description, is there any limit on how often a hex can be used?"" My assumption is "no;" that, like 3.5's warlock's invocations, hexes are unlimited, but I just want to be sure.

    Quick Witch questions ...

    (1) I'm sure the answer is "yes," but witches can be male, right? This is a case of an unfortunate illustrative pronoun. (2) Are hexes time limited, beyond specific descriptions?

    Mage Armor and Ethereal opponents

orion90000, I can pretty much promise that if you and your DM decide to play mage armor the way you'd like to, nobody here is going to report you to the D&DPD. But certain areas of the rules are fleshed out pretty well, and unarmed combat and combat effects of spells are two of those areas. It...

    Best 3-person party?

I'm going to buck the trend and suggest you go warrior-less. Speaking as a GM, the absolute easiest adjustment to make to run for a short party is to the combat strength of the encounters. Secondarily, the rogue got a big bump in combat power in Pathfinder, and of course the cleric (while not...

Help Pricing Item - Death Touch from Death Domain

Damage is one of the benefits of Strength, so I think you start there, by asking yourself what percentage of the benefit of Strength does damage equate to? (You'll have to estimate, obviously.) The +2 to Strength is 4,000 gp. A +4 to Strength would be 16,000 gp. The difference is 12,000 gp...

    D&D 3.x [3.5] Diappointed in level 6 cleric spells

Greater dispel magic is eventually a fine (and all but necessary) spell, but not for an 11th level cleric. (I mean, seriously, you're going to use a 6th-level spell slot for a +1 over what a 3rd-level slot will give you?) The big three for me were heal, blade barrier, and superior resistance...

For the record, you just described community property. California is a community property state. I don't know for sure about Texas, but I doubt it. So you very likely have things exactly backward.

    Questions about skeleton

If a skeleton can use a bow or crossbow, it can certainly navigate around a pit or trigger a door-latch. (It probably won't exit a room, depending on the last orders of its creator, but I certainly don't think it's impossible.)

How to beat the "20 always succeeds" rule

Not exactly. If a creature hits on 11+, and has to take the worse of two d20 rolls, the chance of the creature hitting is 25 percent, not 50 percent. (Each roll has a 50 percent chance to be 11+, but both rolls must be 11+: thus 0.5 times 0.5 equals 0.25.) 50 percent would be hitting on 7+...

    Marking Miniatures

That's what I've done for all my Commons and most of my Uncommons. The Sharpie paint-pens also come in gold. It works really well, IMO. On a few things I used, eg., dots instead of numbers. For instance, I have 12 Medium Spiders of Lolth, and I put dots (one through 12) in symmetrical...

    Weapons of Legacy

Literally? Because I saw stuff from the book used in a fun story-hour. ("Age of Worms." Can't remember whose.) Don't get me wrong, there's some ridiculous stuff in there. ("Ravages"? "Afflictions"? Give me a break.) But it's not all bad.

    Weapons of Legacy

In the Pathfinder context, clerics can take the trait that gives them their holy symbol as a birthmark. I haven't used -- or seen used -- Vow of Poverty in play, but my group (finally) shed the "bound by the RAW" shackles that 3E somehow talked us into wearing, so I don't think it'd be a...

Looking for a good fantasy city (d20)

My favorite city ever is Midkemia Press' Carse. You might be able to find it, but I bought it way back in the 80s. The original Thieves World (Chaosium) was pretty cool, too. Both are system neutral.

    Gaming, Adults, and Growing Up

I've gotten varying degrees of that attitude from almost every woman I've been in a relationship with (the only exceptions have been women I've met while RPGing). It ranges from tolerant amusement through puzzlement to actual pushback (like you're experiencing). My reciprocal response has...

    D&D 3.x [3.5] Making a Scout a better archer?

Improved Skirmish (already mentioned) and skirmisher boots (MIC, I think) are big helps in making a viable ranged scout. (IMO, Improved Skirmish is so good, its creation is basically WotC's way of saying, "Oops. Scout was too weak.")

    Does anyone 'ready' much?

When one character uses a Readied action to interrupt another character, the interrupting character is always placed immediately before the other character in the initiative order. There's no roll-off or anything.
