    Things I've learned from Gaming.

I've never been in the military. Just about anything I know about military equipment, procedures, ranks, etc. has been from gaming. Same with anything medieval. Weapons, terminology, way of life, etc. I doubt I'd ever have much interest in it if not for gaming.

Cave of the spiders - Newbie PbP GM

I have attached a map to this post. I had to reduce the colors to get it under the file size limit. It's a side view of part of the cave complex. You guys are at the top, as you can see. As far as I know, Ery is forward and everybody else is together in the stinky sinkhole room (about 30...

    Knowledge [Local] Solved !

That cascade skill system is great. I'd love to know who came up with it. Thanks for posting it, Genshou. It's officially yoinked!

A new spell system: a "token" based wizard

That is a tough one. Maybe clerics should always operate under the limited refresh rules. When you do sorcerers, will you make it generic for "spontaneous arcane casters"? If so, you'll already have the infinite heal problem with bards. Maybe you could make it dependent on the healing...

A new spell system: a "token" based wizard

Steve, this rocks. Nice work. Just a tiny quibble in your example: Your sample wizard casts "Acid Orb" for 0 cost. I think you mean "Acid Splash." People might think you mean "Orb of Acid" from Complete Arcane which is actually a 4th-level spell. This is an excellent system, and I think...

    The mechanics of non-stop action

I use a "dangerous magic" system based on S. John Ross's "Unlimited Mana" from GURPS. I've massaged it for d20 and sorcerers in my game can use the regular rules or the unlimited variety. With unlimited mana you can cast really big spells, even exceeding your normal level limits, but you have...

It usually starts with a dinner party

Added description and background on Caspar, but I didn't go into how he got to Eberron. Masleh, I purposely left an outsider hook at the end of the background, if you think it's appropriate to tie into how he got here. If not, I'll be glad to change things. Let me know. I also need the...

    Is your group like this?

We actually did an audio recording of a few game sessions many many years ago. Listening to them later was surprisingly entertaining. Wish I knew what happened to them.

Actually I think it's on the WotC boards as well. They have lots of smilies over there.

Cave of the spiders - Newbie PbP GM

Ferrix, please re-read my descriptions in the last post. The creatures attacking Ery are about 90 feet from your current position, and there is a slippery slope leading to a 20' wide, 100' deep shaft straight down between you and them. There is no obvious way across the shaft. I'll post a bit...

    Homebrew Worlds: Racial Gods?

I do the same as Crothian. I have a big spreadsheet with the gods down one side and the various races/nations across the top. In each cell I have the local name of that deity and any notes along with the domains they grant (which sometimes differ). There is only one pantheon but many people...

Mass battles in a campaign -- best way?

That sounds immensely cool. Lots of work, but very very cool.

Mass battles in a campaign -- best way?

For me, it's really a question of the PCs' role in the battle. If they are actually commanding troops in the field, I would use a detailed system (like Cry Havoc) and actually play out the battle. That's part of what their characters are doing. In the Helm's Deep example, Aragorn was actually...

Cave of the spiders - Newbie PbP GM

Ery moves out of the chamber you all currently occupy, through a short tunnel and into the next chamber. The others follow at a discreet distance (I assume). As she enters the next chamber, the ever-present faint reek of corruption in the cave shoots to an almost intolerable stench. She sees...

    Play or GM?

In my experience, yes. I very rarely get to play characters because nobody else in my (small) group will run a game. I believe I've convinced one of my players to actually take over my Champions game (which should be cool) but he hasn't actually run it yet.

    Cave of the Spiders OOC

Lucas has a plan. Any plan that is both sneaky AND blows stuff up has got to be good! Feel free to plot for a few minutes in-game amongst yourselves. I will be away from the keyboard most of today so I probably won't post until tomorrow. You guys have 24 hours to agree on what you're going...
