Get Ur Body Horror: Cronenberg Films Ranked

He's hardly in it, but Cronenberg's cameo in To Die For is a masterpiece in menace.

OSR Interested in dipping my toe into OSR but don’t know where to start. Any recommendations?

The writer and publisher of LotfP is a but of an edgelord, and an excellent painter. This combines to some very gory full-colour paintings in the core rulebook. The implied setting (that is further developed in some of the many, many LotfP scenarios) is that of 17th Century Europe, and is a...

OSR Interested in dipping my toe into OSR but don’t know where to start. Any recommendations?

My advice would be to use OSE as a starting point, as so many OSR games use B/X as a chassis. For a more AD&D feel, there's OSRIC, though I don't follow that anymore and I'm not sure how much material is still being developed for it. I used to be a big fan of Swords & Wizardry because you could...

    She-Hulk: Attorney at Law trailer

It looks exactly like what I'd expect a She-Hulk TV show to look like. Can't wait for it to drop!

D&D 5E (2024) Is the 5E player base going to split?

If it's handled well enough any split should be minor, but there will always be splitters. Just ask the People's Front of Judea. When 3.5 came out all the DMs and players I knew upgraded to it. I didn't, and continued to run 3rd ed for ages, but I was definitely an outlier.

Get Ur Body Horror: Cronenberg Films Ranked

That's the same swap I'd make. Scanners definitely still works for me on a lot of levels, and I think - like Videodrome - it's still pretty relevant. If I had to sub out for The Fly my pick would probably be Crash, though it's pretty much splitting hairs by that point.

There's only one swap I would make to your top five, if I even had that power, and I do not. So, a hard agree with your great post!

The new Doctor has been announced!

I think he'll make a great job of it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Goodman Games What's coming down the Pike for 5e.

I get you, as it took a few false-starts to get my DCC crew on board with the funnel. But the levelled character that pops out at the end is worth the effort, for them. Totally understand why some groups just won't go near it though, as the funnels are meat-grinders. Funny meat-grinders, if...

    D&D 5E (2014) Goodman Games What's coming down the Pike for 5e.

No shade at all, but this seems counter to a lot of the DCC modules I've run over the years, especially low-level modules. Touch that? You're dead. Look through there? You're a ghost now. Take that? You're the thrall of a cosmic muscle-god. Re-roll.

Worlds of Design: Peaceful Solutions to Violent Problems

Wasn't there a thread around here the other day about the "other pillar" in D&D: shenanigans? A lot of the non-violent outcomes players arrive at seem to fall into this category, and I've always found my games better and richer for it.

Absalom, City of Lost Omens In-Depth Review

I might pick this up as even though I'm not a Pathfinder guy, I'm a sucker for giant fantasy cities. All I'd need to do is add in a Dalek cult, and BOSH! Perfection!

    Alternative Superheroes

The PCs were all level X D&D characters. I used M&M (1e, iirc, maybe 2nd) character sheets for the party that stomped them into the dirt and asked, using a magical artifact forged from glowing golden rope, if they were going to change their ways when it came to waylaying strangers.

D&D 5E (2014) What is balance to you, and why do you care (or don't)?

For me, balance means "the game lurches from session to session with everyone wanting it to continue". I'm not a fan of overt mechanical balance, or perfectly-balanced character creation. IMHO, strict CR and encounter algebra quickly becomes code for "we can survive anything cos it's just a game...

How Do You Organise Long-haul Campaigns?

My solution has always been Chaotic Notebook. For my current Burning Wheel campaign, I am experimenting with Lawful Office Document.

What IP would you like to see as an RPG?

We don't talk about that, though. It's the FATAL conversion no-one asked for. The two Sweeney movies that were made after the original show are worth watching.

What IP would you like to see as an RPG?

"The Sweeney" is the best cop show ever made, and I'd play the hell out an RPG based on it. Bonus points for a "Dempsey & Makepeace" splat-book.

    Blades In The Dark

I ran Blades for my guys pre-Covid, and it was only lockdowns what did it in. It's probably number 1 on the "You know what we should try again...?" list. It's a great game and so long as you understand that not everything (Trauma/Vice) needs to be ported over directly, very hackable.
