D&D 5E (2014) Exploration: What are the benefits of drawing a map?

We should never underestimate those two reasons for doing anything at the table.

    D&D 5E (2014) Wall of Force

I go for a simple rule of thumb: If you can't shoot an arrow¹ at any part of the target then it has total cover from you. Total cover blocks line of effect which blocks spells (unless they say otherwise, like sacred flame or fireball). Stone wall? Stops an arrow, so total cover. Pane of glass...

D&D 5E (2014) Bless Spell and Total Cover / Line of Sight

No. All spells, unless they state otherwise (for example sacred flame, fireball), need line of effect..

D&D 5E (2014) What armor can druids wear? Is there a way to get a decent AC?

I'm confused. Some of those items you've highlighted are armour suits that a druid won't wear. It is pointless for a druid to gain heavy armour proficiency because they won't wear any of those heavy armour suits.

D&D 5E (2014) What armor can druids wear? Is there a way to get a decent AC?

A contrary opinion: If you want better AC, play a fighter or a paladin. Every class has limitations and tradeoffs and balancers. Asking "how can I play this class without the limitations?" just seems, I dunno, greedy to me. Druids have low AC. This balances their incredible amount of Hit...

And possibly not so obvious: Poison Ivy from any of various Batman movies and shows Maui from the movie Moana.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you know the feeling of de-feat? (Playing a featless game.)

I'm starting a new game tonight, with the idea that it will cover levels 1 to 12. Since the players have to actually play through those levels, it will be interesting to see how many of the three ASIs most classes get are spent on feats. The last game had many characters join at level 10+, and...

Possibly obvious... Allanon and/or Dagda Mor from the Shannara Chronicles.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why sleeping shouldn't be a long rest

True. The duration of many spells is supposed to last across many encounters (water breathing, dark vision, death ward, higher-slot hex). With a 24-hour short rest, these spells only last for one or two encounters, not 6 to 8. Druids can no longer spend an entire rest in beast form. The...

    D&D 5E (2014) What Level was your 1st Character Death in 5e?

2nd level druid. Death by overdamage (aquatic ghouls). It was the last time I played AL. None of the players wanted to pay for raising my character even though it was cheaper due to acolyte background (plate armour was more important apparantly) so I had to use faction raise. No XP, no treasure.

D&D 5E (2014) Can you twin booming blade

That is pretty elegant. I've been unhappy with the way those SCAG cantrips mix up casting and hitting (especially when you combine them woith reach, multiattack, antimagic and counterspell) and I think this makes me happy. Happier, anyway.

D&D 5E (2014) Encumbrance by carrying capacity - an easier way

That's a good point. It's quicker to get a potion from a belt than from a backpack, so we need to know where every item is.

D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk, and race options for Oerth PCs

I feel exactly the opposite. A player who wants to play a dragonborn in a game where my pitch didn't include dragonborn is a red flag. I've found that more often than not, the player who convinces me to let them play a dragonborn follows that up by asking to play UA and homebrew, usually for...

You could map PHB races onto human ethnic groups. For example, I think it would work well if you say Rhenee use the rules for Gnomes.

    D&D 5E (2014) Natural Weapons discrepancies?

Because the game designers engineered the monster stats using the rules but then did extensive playtesting, and tweaked the stats based on the results. Not every monster in the book follows the rules in the DMG exactly. SImply put, dire wolves are supposed to be bigger and nastier than normal...

    D&D 5E (2014) About the undead

I've written out something similar for my game, because I needed to set the expectation up front that creating undead is an evil act. I needed to set it up front because two of the players were talking about raising dead party members as zombies to carry loot ("dead party members walk home and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is expertise badly designed?

The Monster Manual has an interesting rule for damage on critical hits - you use average damage and then add one dice roll. So an attack that does 5 (1d6+1) on a hit does 5+1d6 on a critical hit. Perhaps a similar idea for Expertise? Add another die roll so that the extremely high results come...
