D&D General Hasbro leaving Rhode Island?

Surprised they aren't moving to Seattle.

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks Talks AI Usage in D&D [UPDATED!]

It's not like having your job replaced by technology should be a new and unexpected thing in 2024, it's been happening for over a 100 years and the experts have been telling us for a long time that workers need to be flexible and ready to adapt, and that we can expect to shift to a new field...

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks Talks AI Usage in D&D [UPDATED!]

Japan never stopped making guns. However in the 200 years of peace that followed the end of the sengoku period there was little demand for military weapons of any kind so large scale manufacturing stopped. Gun production continued as a cottage industry making hunting weapons, and there wasn't...

D&D 5E (2024) Hobby Store Exclusive (Special Cover) PHB Pre-Orders Cancelled

Some news: I just received my alt-cover PHB, slightly delayed but now it's here, yay! It says "printed in the USA", so it seems like the speculation that the overseas alt-covers are printed in China is wrong. At least here in Europe we're getting American books. Which makes me wonder why...

D&D 5E (2024) Hobby Store Exclusive (Special Cover) PHB Pre-Orders Cancelled

It's a problem because it's a product that will never be available again, a product that many people really wanted and went out of their way to pre-order so that they would be sure to get it. Do you have any examples of other companies treating a special, limited edition in the same way?

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks Talks AI Usage in D&D [UPDATED!]

This is a myth, the law largely leaves it up to the corporation itself to decide how to do business and what its goals should be. If the shareholders are unhappy with the direction the corporation is taking, they can vote to replace the board and senior management, not go crying to the courts...

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks Talks AI Usage in D&D [UPDATED!]

I also find it hard to believe, Cocks is probably exaggerating. But it would be cool if it was true wouldn't it? That the CEO of D&D likes the game so much that he finds time to play in 5-6 campaigns simultaneously. :geek:

D&D 5E (2024) Spell Theif is not as bad aa it looks.

This trick could be useful for setting up some combos that require multiple concentration spells. It doesn't matter so much that the original caster loses access to a spell, when he's going to be busy concentrating on something else anyway.

D&D General Stuff 5E Did Right

I don't remember that holding me back when I was a kid and learning to ride a bike ;)

Me neither. But if you're a book publisher, you should know, because it's part of your business.

D&D 5E (2024) Hobby Store Exclusive (Special Cover) PHB Pre-Orders Cancelled

The problem books were apparently printed in China. Chinese companies are eager for business and will tell you whatever they think you want to hear about their capabilities, so if you're not doing due dilligence when evaluating them you're risking ending up with results like the current fiasco.

D&D General Stuff 5E Did Right

Then calling it "training wheels" is a completely misplaced metaphor. Training wheels don't limit where you can go on your bicycle, they just make it much less likely that an unskilled rider will fall and get hurt. So completely the opposite of what level 1-2 in 5e is like.

D&D 5E (2024) Hobby Store Exclusive (Special Cover) PHB Pre-Orders Cancelled

I won't let WotC off quite that easily. Selecting the right printer for a book is in fact part of your job as a publisher. If the cause of this problem is something exceptional and unexpected then yeah, maybe nobody is to blame. But if WotC failed to properly evaluate their potential suppliers...

2024 Player's Handbook Officially Live on D&D Beyond

I suspect adding support for 2014 spells on short notice has pushed back everything else they were working on.

D&D General Stuff 5E Did Right

I've never understood the idea of level 1-2 being "training levels" In my 10 years of 5e and many campaigns played to high levels, nearly 50% of all character deaths have happened at level 1 or 2. Low levels is really where you need to bring your A-game if you want to survive, there is a lot...

D&D 5E (2024) Hobby Store Exclusive (Special Cover) PHB Pre-Orders Cancelled

My preorder has been delayed but not cancelled (yet). I really don't care for the art on the standard covers, so if I can't get the alternate covers I probably won't get the 2024 books until they are deeply discounted.

D&D General D&D Player's Handbook PayPal Orders Suffer Processing Issues

This is probably for the best. Those affected can now wait until next year to buy their PHB, and get one with the errata printed. ;)

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

I think I'm going to design a monster, some kind of fey probably, who literally juggles a bunch of different weapons that all have different special attacks, and then on it's turn it makes 3-4 quick attacks with random weapons without interrupting the performance.

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks Talks AI Usage in D&D [UPDATED!]

I'd say that using AI content in your game is no different than using any other external content in your game, like modules, sourcebooks, stuff like monsters and locations from DM's Guild, or cool fantasy pictures from deviantart. With AI you can generate content that's customized for your...

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks Talks AI Usage in D&D [UPDATED!]

People have different skills. Some people can be good at visualizing a place in their mind but still be poor at describing it on the fly. Having a description prepared in advance, either one you write yourself or from a product, can be a good way to ensure that you convey the atmosphere of the...
