    D&D 5E (2024) Ranger 2024 is a bigger joke than Ranger 2014:

Perhaps the reason the ranger is just a half-caster is that they spend so much effort on learning to cast quietly. If wotc didn't hate rangers they could introduce a feature like: "The ranger can call upon the power of nature with barely a whisper. The verbal component of your spells can't be...

D&D 5E (2014) Players, would you play in a multi-year campaign that used only the 5.1 SRD?

Spells are the major exception, casters get to pick new spells at regular intervals, and when a new books add more spells it can have a significant impact.

WotC Has Kyle Brink left WotC?

I guess wotc's plan is to stop pissing gamers off, if they've let the one guy they had who was skilled at apologizing leave the company.

D&D General Richard Whitters poll on twitter, "Will you be buying the newest edition of D&D?"

I don't like the standard covers very much, so I'll be picking up the new books as soon as they are available if I can get the alternate covers. I don't have any immediate plans to play 5.5, but I know I'll regret it if I don't get the good looking books while I can.

D&D 5E (2014) When it all goes wrong

Or the players need to put some thought into what challenges they take on, once they understand that they are allowed to lose. Anyway, the A-Team gets captured and locked up in a shed pretty much every episode, so the story can work even with regular setbacks like that ;)

D&D 5E (2014) When it all goes wrong

D&D really needs mechanics to let the PCs be defeated in combat but not all die. Retreating or being taken prisoner allows the story to continue even if the bad guys won this fight, but the system makes a TPK the most likely result if the PCs lose in combat.

D&D 5E (2024) Last minute guesses about what WotC did with the Bard

They've finally listened to the players who want a spell-less bard.

D&D General Race Has No Mechanics. What do you play?

The lore doesn't have to match the character generation mechanics. You can have a setting where the typical dwarf is a master of stone and the typical elf a woodland expert, all reflected in NPC stats and abilities. But player characters are all exceptional individuals with the blank-slate...

D&D General Race Has No Mechanics. What do you play?

I wouldn't play in a D&D-like game where races don't have any mechanical impact, the races just aren't very interesting on their own.

D&D General DMs Guild and DriveThruRPG ban AI written works, requires labels for AI generated art

Turns out you don't actually need to think in order to outdo or replace humans in a lot of tasks.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

That depends on the DM. Many reasonably assume that you only need one person to make noise to give away the whole group, so go with individual tests and compare the lowest result with the opposition's passive perception.

    D&D 5E (2024) Ranger 2024 is a bigger joke than Ranger 2014:

How do you "project your voice" without increasing the volume?

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

Trying to sneak as a group without Pass without Trace is pretty much guaranteed failure. Someone is going to get unlucky, roll a 2 and get spotted even if they have a decent stealth bonus.

D&D General Why Do You Prefer a Medieval Milieu For D&D? +

One feature of a typical medieval society, as inspired by feudal age western Europe, is that it lacks a strong central government. There's no police or standing army, so people are apt to ask wandering adventurers for help when they have problems that need to be solved with righteous violence...

    D&D 5E (2024) How you going to roll... 5.24 into your game(s)?

I'm playing in a single active 5e campaign playing through ToA, and I expect that we'll finish that campaign with the current rules and characters. Maybe we'll adopt a few rules from the new books, but we're not planning to allow 2024 character options or spells. Hopefully the release of the...

D&D General Warforged? How Long Could One Live For?

Warforged may potentially be immortal, but that also goes for vampires, liches, elementals and many outsiders. Being immortal isn't all that special in D&D, the hard part is surviving long enough for immortality to be noticable.

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Lied To Me. Gp vs Sp

Quite likely. We don't know what quantity "diamond dust worth 100gp" actually is, it's probably a tiny amount.

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Lied To Me. Gp vs Sp

In D&D, silver is a lot more expensive than on Earth, because there is a constant demand for powdered silver to create holy water. This consumes the silver, taking it off the market permanently. It's basic economics, really.
