    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond Releases 2023 Character Creation Data

Of course, a veteran gamer will go "I get 3 meat shields?! Time to pull out that sorlock build I've always wanted to try!"

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond Releases 2023 Character Creation Data

People were unhappy with the half-caster warlock because it was severely nerfed, among other things. It was by no means stronger than the short-rest warlock.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dissonant Whispers + Warcaster + Booming Blade AOO mechanics

The phrase "willingly moves" in Booming Blade is obviously there so that the spell can't be powered up by forcing the target to move and taking the extra damage. It's hard to explain in the fiction how this actually works, so if the potential for exploits doesn't bother you, ruling that all...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond Releases 2023 Character Creation Data

As always with D&D beyond statistics, I'm curious about how many of these characters are actually played, and how many are build experiments, and if there is a significant difference in distribution between the two. Interesting stats none the less!

D&D General Does a multiclassed fighter still get the Action Surge Boost at level 17?

I'm pretty sure that the rules are the way they are so that cantrips remain relevant at higher levels, even for multiclass characters.

WotC: 'We made a mistake when we said an image not AI'

That's the point, for any practical purposes it can't be done, so demanding WIP files from artists is and will continue to be a safe way to ensure you're not paying for AI generated art.

WotC: 'We made a mistake when we said an image not AI'

@trappedslider The discussion is about a potential model to create a "fake" edit history to make it possible to pass off an AI work as if it was hand made, for fraudulent purposes. So it would have to mimic the traditional art process, not the AI art one.

WotC: 'We made a mistake when we said an image not AI'

To make such a model you'd also need a lot of training data, ie. load and loads of sequences of WIP pictures. Artists sometimes post WIPs, but they rarely share the entire edit history, so getting enough data to train a model would be challenging, to say the least. You can probably make a LORA...

D&D 5E (2014) Dragons that can polymorph into humanoids...

Polymorph also doesn't say anything about whether you can transform into various individuals of each form, so it can be interpreted either way.

D&D General Does a multiclassed fighter still get the Action Surge Boost at level 17?

The only things that scale with character level rather than class level are the things explicitly called out in the multiclassing rules. Multiclassing is an optional rule, so the class rules are generally not written with multiclassing in mind, they all assume a single-class character. So you...

WotC: 'We made a mistake when we said an image not AI'

None of the AI companies have any incentive to create a model that creates a fake and believable edit history. The only use for such a model is to commit fraud, for "artists" contracted to deliver non-AI art but wanting to fudge it. That's not a very large potential customer base, and training...

WotC Roll For Combat: Hasbro Downgraded. Toys Rotting on the Shelves

I believe Larian's license is specifically to make Baldur's Gate 3, they don't have any general license to make D&D video games. Non-exclusive licenses like that are usually royalty based rather than lump-sum payments. Now, if Larian proposes to negotiate a license for a BG4, I suspect WotC...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

If I pitch a campaign with character restricitions, it's because those restrictions support the theme of the campaign. So if a player wants to play a character against those restrictions, he's probably not very excited about the specific theme, he justs wants to play D&D, any D&D. Themed...

D&D General Warlock Great Old One

I think the author also has to respect that once the reader has bought a book, they are free to read it however they like. If you don't want people to interpret your writings, your only option is not to publish. Saying that "the author meant X with this book", may be disrespectful, but stating...

    D&D 5E (2014) Using "D&D 2024" instead of "5e24"

Yes, exactly. It's not my logic, it's the standard. Once you see version numbers like 1.15.6 you realize it can't be decimals. :geek:

    D&D 5E (2014) Using "D&D 2024" instead of "5e24"

There are 4 versions between 3.0 and 3.5, not 49. Version numbers are not decimal numbers. Either way it shouldn't have been called 3.5e :)

What happened to the 23 versions between 5.0 and 5.24?

D&D General Warlock Great Old One

Good example really. LotR was written during and after WW2, of course the war would have influenced Tolkien when he was writing it. It's not surprising that analogies can be found, regardless of what Tolkien said.

    D&D 5E (2014) Using "D&D 2024" instead of "5e24"

I'm going to call it D&D 5.1, because that is the standard versioning nomenclature for a new version that adds new features but doesn't break backwards compatibility. Version 3.5 of D&D coming directly after 3.0 was an abomination.
